Expression of matrix metalloproteinase-2 and 9 with their inhibitors, tissue inhibitors of metalloproteinase-1 and 2 in oral lichen planus

open access: yesJournal of Orofacial Sciences, 2014
Objectives: The study aims to explore the expression of the matrix metalloproteinases (MMP-2, -9) and their inhibitors (tissue inhibitors of metalloproteinase [TIMP]-1, -2) as well as the correlation between them in the different morphological forms of ...

Plasma matrix metalloproteinase-9 and tissue inhibitor of matrix metalloproteinase-1 as prognostic biomarkers in critically ill patients

open access: yesOpen Medicine, 2020
Matrix metalloproteinase 9 (MMP-9) plays an important role in inflammatory and pathological processes by enabling the inflow of leukocytes to the site of infection or tissue damage.

Clinical significance of matrix metalloproteinase 9 and tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinase 1 and 2 in Kawasaki disease [PDF]

open access: yesKorean Journal of Pediatrics, 2010
Purpose : Kawasaki disease (KD) is a systemic vasculitis, a leading cause of pediatric acquired heart disease. Histopathological findings of coronary artery lesion (CAL) in KD indicate destruction of the coronary artery wall with diffuse vasculitis ...

Role of matrix metalloproteinases 1, 2, and 9 and tissue inhibitor of matrix metalloproteinase-1 in chronic venous insufficiency [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Vascular Surgery, 2001
Increased transforming growth factor-beta(1) (TGF-beta(1)) activity is associated with chronic venous insufficiency (CVI) disease progression and dermal skin pathology. Because TGF-beta(1) stimulates collagen synthesis and alters the levels of matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) and their inhibitors (TIMPs), we investigated the hypothesis that increased ...

Histopathologic Findings Associated With Matrix Metalloproteinases Proceeding to Recurrence of Primary Spontaneous Pneumothorax in Adolescents

open access: yesFrontiers in Pediatrics, 2021
Background: Primary spontaneous pneumothorax is potentially life-threatening, and its recurrence is always a serious problem. Pathological examination provides molecular insights into the pathophysiology of primary spontaneous pneumothorax. Objectives: To

Osteopontin, a Novel Substrate for Matrix Metalloproteinase-3 (Stromelysin-1) and Matrix Metalloproteinase-7 (Matrilysin) [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Biological Chemistry, 2001
Osteopontin (OPN) is a secreted phosphoprotein shown to function in wound healing, inflammation, and tumor progression. Expression of OPN is often co-localized with members of the matrix metalloproteinase (MMP) family. We report that OPN is a novel substrate for two MMPs, MMP-3 (stromelysin-1) and MMP-7 (matrilysin).

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

COMP–PMEPA1 axis promotes epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition in breast cancer cells

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study reveals that cartilage oligomeric matrix protein (COMP) promotes epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition (EMT) in breast cancer. We identify PMEPA1 (protein TMEPAI) as a novel COMP‐binding partner that mediates EMT via binding to the TSP domains of COMP, establishing the COMP–PMEPA1 axis as a key EMT driver in breast cancer.

Interleukin-33, matrix metalloproteinase-9, and tissue inhibitor of matrix metalloproteinase-1 in myocardial infarction

open access: yesThe Korean Journal of Internal Medicine, 2013
Acute coronary syndrome (ACS) is characterized by increased inflammatory processes and endothelial activation. We investigated the association between ACS and inflammatory mediators and matrix-degrading enzymes. We prospectively enrolled 55 consecutive patients with ACS: 25 with unstable angina (UA) and 30 with non-ST elevated myocardial infarction ...
