Matrix Metalloproteinase 2-sensitive Multifunctional Polymeric Micelles for Tumor-specific Co-delivery of siRNA and Hydrophobic Drugs

open access: yesBiomaterials, 2014
Co-delivery of hydrophilic siRNA and hydrophobic drugs is one of the major challenges for nanomaterial-based medicine. Here, we present a simple but multifunctional micellar platform constructed by a matrix metalloproteinase 2 (MMP2)-sensitive copolymer (

Serum matrix metalloproteinase 2 and tissue inhibitor of matrix metalloproteinases 2 in esophageal cancer patients

open access: yesFolia Histochemica et Cytobiologica, 2012
The positive expression of MMP-2 and TIMP-2 were found in esophageal cancer (EC) tissue and correlated with cancer stage and clinico-pathological features of tumor and patients' survival. However, little is known about serum levels of those proteins in EC patients. The aim of the present study was to investigate the diagnostic significance of MMP-2 and

Neutrophil extracellular traps induce endothelial dysfunction in systemic lupus erythematosus through the activation of matrix metalloproteinase-2

open access: yesAnnals of the Rheumatic Diseases, 2014
Rationale The structural and functional integrity of the endothelium is crucial in maintaining vascular homeostasis and preventing atherosclerosis.

Immunocharacterization of matrix metalloproteinase-2 and matrix metalloproteinase-9 in canine transmissible venereal tumors

open access: yesBiotechnic & Histochemistry, 2017
Matrix metalloproteases (MMPs) are endogenous proteases that are responsible for degradation of extracellular matrix (ECM) proteins and cell surface antigens. The breakdown of ECM participates in the local invasion and distant metastases of malignant tumors.

Common matrix metalloproteinase-2 gene variants and altered susceptibility to breast cancer and associated features in Tunisian women

open access: yesTumor Biology, 2019
A role for matrix metalloproteinase polymorphisms in breast cancer development and progression was proposed, but with inconclusive results. We assessed the relation of matrix metalloproteinase-2 variants with breast cancer and related phenotypes in ...

The role of miR‐335‐5p in the redifferentiation of BRAF p.V600E thyroid cancers

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The BRAF p.V600E mutation promotes thyroid cancer dedifferentiation and radioiodine resistance. Using a network approach, we identified miR‐335‐5p as a key regulator of BRAF‐mutated thyroid tumors. Restoring miR‐335‐5p increased thyroid‐specific gene expression and iodine uptake in cells and organoids.

Identification of matrix metalloproteinase-2 and -9 activities within the intestinal mucosa of dogs with chronic enteropathies

open access: yesActa Veterinaria Scandinavica, 2018
Background Matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) 2 and 9 are zinc- and calcium-dependent endopeptidases involved in the breakdown and reconstitution of extracellular matrix under both physiological and pathological conditions.

Kallikrein‐1 Blockade Inhibits Aortic Expansion in a Mouse Model and Reduces Prostaglandin E2 Secretion From Human Aortic Aneurysm Explants

open access: yesJournal of the American Heart Association: Cardiovascular and Cerebrovascular Disease, 2021
Background Abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) is an important cause of mortality in older adults. The kinin B2 receptor agonist, bradykinin, has been implicated in AAA pathogenesis through promoting inflammation.

Myocardial matrix metalloproteinase-2: inside out and upside down

open access: yesJournal of Molecular and Cellular Cardiology, 2014
Since their inaugural discovery in the early 1960s, matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) have been shown to mediate multiple physiological and pathological processes.

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...
