Identification of mcr-2 and mcr-3 Genes in Colistin-Resistant E. coli O157:H7 Isolated From Raw Meat Samples in Beirut, Lebanon. [PDF]

open access: yesInt J Microbiol
Colistin is a last-resort antibiotic used to treat multidrug-resistant Gram-negative bacterial infections. The global emergence of colistin resistance has been attributed to plasmid-mediated mobile colistin resistance (mcr) genes. In Lebanon, bacteria carrying the mcr-1 gene have increasingly been identified in food animal sources.

Induction of proteome changes involved in the cloning of mcr-1 and mcr-2 genes in Escherichia coli DH5-α strain to evaluate colistin resistance

open access: yesJournal of Global Antimicrobial Resistance
: Objectives: Plasmid genes, termed mobile colistin resistance-1 (mcr-1) and mobile colistin resistance-2 (mcr-2), are associated with resistance to colistin in Escherichia coli (E. coli).

Screening for the presence of mcr-1/mcr-2 genes in Shiga toxin-producing Escherichia coli recovered from a major produce-production region in California.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2017
The rapid spreading of polymyxin E (colistin) resistance among bacterial strains through the horizontally transmissible mcr-1 and mcr-2 plasmids has become a serious concern.

Mobile Colistin-Resistant Genes mcr-1, mcr-2, and mcr-3 Identified in Diarrheal Pathogens among Infants, Children, and Adults in Bangladesh: Implications for the Future

open access: yesAntibiotics
Colistin is a last-resort antimicrobial for treating multidrug-resistant Gram-negative bacteria. Phenotypic colistin resistance is highly associated with plasmid-mediated mobile colistin resistance (mcr) genes.

Culture-Independent Quantitative PCR Detected Mobilized Colistin Resistance Genes (mcr-1, mcr-2, mcr-3, mcr-4, and mcr-5) in Chicken Gut Contents in Bangladesh

open access: yesSci
Inappropriate antimicrobial use in food animal farming propels antimicrobial resistance (AMR) that affects all health domains. Colistin is a ‘Reserve’ antibiotic for human treatment to be conserved for multidrug-resistant pathogens; however, it is being ...

Oral colonization of Acinetobacter baumannii in intensive care units: Risk factors, incidence, molecular epidemiology, association with the occur of pneumonia and sepsis, and infection control measures [PDF]

open access: yesIranian Journal of Basic Medical Sciences, 2022
Objective(s): Oral colonization of Acinetobacter baumannii can lead to infections such as pneumonia and sepsis. We aimed to evaluate oral colonization of hospitalized patients in ICUs and to examine risk factors for oral colonization, molecular ...

MCR Expression Conferring Varied Fitness Costs on Host Bacteria and Affecting Bacteria Virulence

open access: yesAntibiotics, 2021
Since the first report of the plasmid-mediated, colistin-resistant gene, mcr-1, nine mcr genes and their subvariants have been identified. The spreading scope of mcr-1~10 varies greatly, suggesting that mcr-1~10 may have different evolutionary advantages.

Molecular survey of mcr1 and mcr2 plasmid mediated colistin resistance genes in Escherichia coli isolates of animal origin in Iran

open access: yesBMC Research Notes, 2021
Objectives The emergence of colistin-resistant Enterobacteriaceae from human and animal sources is one of the major public health concerns as colistin is the last-resort antibiotic for treating infections caused by multidrug-resistant Gram-negative ...

Rapid Polymyxin NP test for the detection of polymyxin resistance mediated by the mcr-1/mcr-2 genes [PDF]

open access: yesDiagnostic Microbiology and Infectious Disease, 2018
The Rapid Polymyxin NP test has been recently developed to rapidly detect polymyxin resistance in Enterobacteriaceae. Here we evaluated this test for detecting MCR-1/MCR-2-producing Enterobacteriaceae using a collection of 70 non-redundant strains either recovered from the environment, animals, or humans.

Identification of a novel plasmid-mediated colistin-resistance gene, mcr-2, in Escherichia coli, Belgium, June 2016 [PDF]

open access: yesEurosurveillance, 2016
We identified a novel plasmid-mediated colistin-resistance gene in porcine and bovine colistin-resistant Escherichia coli that did not contain mcr-1. The gene, termed mcr-2, a 1,617 bp phosphoethanolamine transferase harboured on an IncX4 plasmid, has 76.7% nucleotide identity to mcr-1. Prevalence of mcr-2 in porcine colistin-resistant E. coli (11/53)
