Melanocortin receptor accessory proteins in adrenal disease and obesity. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Melanocortin receptor accessory proteins (MRAPs) are regulators of the melanocortin receptor family. MRAP is an essential accessory factor for the functional expression of the MC2R/ACTH receptor.

Folding, misfolding, and regulation of intracellular traffic of G protein‐coupled receptors involved in the hypothalamic–pituitary–gonadal axis

open access: yesAndrology, Volume 14, Issue 4, Page 978-991, May 2026.
Abstract Background G protein‐coupled receptors are a large and functionally diverse family of membrane receptors involved in a number of biological processes. Like other proteins, G protein‐coupled receptors need to be properly folded in order to traffic to the plasma membrane and interact with agonist.

Astrocytes: New Targets of Melanocortin 4 Receptor Actions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Astrocytes exert a wide variety of functions with paramount importance in brain physiology. After injury or infection, astrocytes become reactive and they respond by producing a variety of inflammatory mediators that help maintain brain homeostasis. Loss

Exploring the impact of Cabotegravir‐Rilpivirine long‐acting on weight gain, body composition and quality of life in adults living with HIV

open access: yesHIV Medicine, Volume 27, Issue 5, Page 727-739, May 2026.
Abstract Introduction Long‐acting injectable antiretroviral therapy (ART) with Cabotegravir (CAB) and Rilpivirine (RPV) offers an alternative to daily oral regimens, improving adherence and patient satisfaction. However, its impact on body composition and metabolism remains underexplored.

Corticotropin (ACTH) acts directly on amygdala neurons to down-regulate corticotropin-releasing hormone gene expression. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
The hormone corticotropin (ACTH) is employed as therapy for diverse neurological disorders, but the mechanisms for its efficacy remain unknown. ACTH promotes the release of adrenal steroids (glucocorticoids), and most ACTH effects on the central nervous ...

Functional characterization of nine novel naturally occurring human melanocortin-3 receptor mutations

open access: yesBiochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - Molecular Basis of Disease, 2012
The melanocortin-3 receptor (MC3R) is a member of family A rhodopsin-like G protein-coupled receptors. Mouse genetic studies suggested that MC3R and the related MC4R are non-redundant regulators of energy homeostasis. Lack of Mc3r leads to higher feed efficiency and fat mass.

Global consensus on the management of melanin hyperpigmentation disorders

open access: yesJournal of the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology, Volume 40, Issue 5, Page 760-772, May 2026.
A global Delphi consensus of 10 dermatology experts established evidence‐based recommendations for melanin hyperpigmentation disorders, providing unified classification, photoprotection guidance and treatment algorithms. This framework harmonizes terminology and supports individualized management across diverse skin types and health systems.

Study on Association of Single Nucleotide Polymorphism of MC3R and MC4R Genes with Carcass and Meat Quality Traits in Chicken

open access: yesThe Journal of Poultry Science, 2009
Body composition, fat deposition and meat quality are important traits in chickens. Melanocortin receptor (MCR) plays an important role in central melanocortin system (CMS) and muscle cells.

CNS Control of Glucose Metabolism: Response to Environmental Challenges [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Over the last 15 years, considerable work has accumulated to support the role of the CNS in regulating postprandial glucose levels. As discussed in the first section of this review, the CNS receives and integrates information from afferent neurons ...
