Effect of NDP-a-MSH on PPAR-c and –b Expression and Anti-Inflammatory Cytokine Release in Rat Astrocytes and Microglia [PDF]
Brain inflammation plays a central role in numerous brain pathologies. Microglia and astrocytes are the main effector cells that become activated when an inflammatory process takes place within the central nervous system. a-melanocytestimulating hormone (

Time‐Restricted Feeding Alters Behavior in a Sex‐Specific Manner in Mice With Neuropathic Pain
Time‐restricted feeding (TRF) alleviates anxiety‐like behavior in male mice with neuropathic pain (NP), but not in females. Upon nerve injury, TRF altered the diurnal expression of transcripts in the hypothalamus. These findings suggest that TRF should be explored as a new therapeutic approach to alleviate the comorbid anxiety in NP.

CNS Control of Glucose Metabolism: Response to Environmental Challenges [PDF]
Over the last 15 years, considerable work has accumulated to support the role of the CNS in regulating postprandial glucose levels. As discussed in the first section of this review, the CNS receives and integrates information from afferent neurons ...

Both MC1 and MC3 Receptors Provide Protection From Cerebral Ischemia-Reperfusion-Induced Neutrophil Recruitment. [PDF]
Objective Neutrophil recruitment is a key process in the pathogenesis of stroke, and may provide a valuable therapeutic target. Targeting the melanocortin receptors (MC) has previously shown to inhibit leukocyte recruitment in peripheral inflammation ...

Melanocortin-4 Receptor Gene Mutations in Obese Slovak Children
The most common etiology of non-syndromic monogenic obesity are mutations in gene for the Melanocortin-4 receptor (MC485) with variable prevalence in different countries (1.2-6.3 % of obese children). The aim of our study was 1) to search for MC4R mutations in obese children in Slovakia and compare their prevalence with other European countries, and 2)

ABSTRACT Aim Mediterranean peninsulas typically harbour high intraspecific genetic diversity associated with long‐term persistence in multiple glacial refugia. However, some widespread taxa show unexpectedly shallow phylogeographic structure. Here, we investigate which historical processes can generate a pattern of strong genetic depletion within a ...

Association of Melanocortin 4 Receptor gene polymorphism with growth traits in Bligon goat
Melanocortin 4 receptor gene is a potential marker gene for growth performance in ruminant and non-ruminant animals. The objective of this study was to perform allele and genotype frequencies, and association of melanocortin 4 receptor with growth traits

Noradrenergic inhibition of definitive POMC neurons through direct and indirect mechanisms
Norepinephrine and the α2‐adrenoceptor agonist UK 14,304 robustly inhibit definitive arcuate POMC neurons. Direct inhibition is mediated by ADRA2A‐dependent activation of potassium conductances, while additional indirect mechanisms also contribute. In vivo, inducible POMC‐specific Adra2a deletion minimally affects energy balance and modestly impairs ...

Adrenalectomy alters the sensitivity of the central nervous system melanocortin system [PDF]
Removal of adrenal steroids by adrenalectomy (ADX) reduces food intake and body weight in rodents and prevents excessive weight gain in many genetic and dietary models of obesity. Thus, glucocorticoids appear to play a key role to promote positive energy
