Melanocytes and their diseases. [PDF]
Human melanocytes are distributed not only in the epidermis and in hair follicles but also in mucosa, cochlea (ear), iris (eye), and mesencephalon (brain) among other tissues.

Melanocytes, melanocyte stem cells, and melanoma stem cells. [PDF]
Melanocyte stem cells differ greatly from melanoma stem cells; the former provide pigmented cells during normal tissue homeostasis and repair, and the latter play an active role in a lethal form of cancer. These 2 cell types share several features and can be studied by similar methods.

MITF in Normal Melanocytes, Cutaneous and Uveal Melanoma: A Delicate Balance
Microphthalmia-associated transcription factor (MITF) is an important regulator of melanogenesis and melanocyte development. Although it has been studied extensively in cutaneous melanoma, the role of MITF in uveal melanoma (UM) has not been explored in ...

Successful Repigmentation of Full-Thickness Wound Healing in Fraser’s Dolphins (Lagenodelphis hosei)
Fraser’s dolphins (Lagenodelphis hosei) exhibit the capability to restore nearly normal pigmentation after full-thickness wounding. However, the association among melanocytes, melanin and skin pigmentation during wound healing in cetaceans has yet to be ...

The genomic landscapes of individual melanocytes from human skin
Every cell in the human body has a unique set of somatic mutations, but it remains difficult to comprehensively genotype an individual cell 1 . Here we describe ways to overcome this obstacle in the context of normal human skin, thus offering a glimpse ...

Classification of Melanocytic Nevus Images using BigTransfer (BiT) [PDF]
Skin cancer is a fatal disease that takes a heavy toll over human lives annually. The colored skin images show a significant degree of resemblance between different skin lesions such as melanoma and nevus, making identification and diagnosis more challenging. Melanocytic nevi may mature to cause fatal melanoma.

The clinical, histopathologic, immunohistochemical, and electron microscopic findings of two cases of melanocytic schwannoma are reported. One case, which occurred in the parotid gland, is believed to be the first reported in this location. The other case was located in the sacral spinal region.

Background Melanocytes are an essential part of the epidermis, and their regeneration has received much attention because propagation of human adult melanocytes in vitro is too slow for clinical use.

Melanoma Risk and Melanocyte Biology
Cutaneous melanoma arises from melanocytes following genetic, epigenetic and allogenetic (i.e. other than epi/genetic) modifications. An estimated 10% of cutaneous melanoma cases are due to inherited variants or de novo mutations in approximately 20 ...

Loss of Melanopsin (OPN4) Leads to a Faster Cell Cycle Progression and Growth in Murine Melanocytes
Skin melanocytes harbor a complex photosensitive system comprised of opsins, which were shown, in recent years, to display light- and thermo-independent functions.
