Definitive Radiotherapy in the Management of Non-Resectable or Residual Retroperitoneal Sarcomas: Institutional Cohort Analysis and Systematic Review

open access: yesCancer Control, 2021
Background: There is currently no consensus on optimal management of patients with primary or recurrent non-resectable/residual retroperitoneal sarcomas (RPS). The objective of this study was to document the outcomes of patients with primary or recurrent

Vitiligo-specific soluble biomarkers as early indicators of response to immune checkpoint inhibitors in metastatic melanoma patients

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2022
Immunotherapy with checkpoint inhibitors (CPIs) strongly improved the outcome of metastatic melanoma patients. However, not all the patients respond to treatment and identification of prognostic biomarkers able to select responding patients is currently ...

Circulating extracellular vesicles expressing PD1 and PD-L1 predict response and mediate resistance to checkpoint inhibitors immunotherapy in metastatic melanoma

open access: yesMolecular Cancer, 2022
Background The immunotherapy with immune checkpoints inhibitors (ICI) has changed the life expectancy in metastatic melanoma (MM) patients. Nevertheless, several patients do not respond hence, the identification and validation of novel biomarkers of ...

High p16 expression and heterozygous RB1 loss are biomarkers for CDK4/6 inhibitor resistance in ER+ breast cancer

open access: yesNature Communications, 2022
CDK4/6 inhibitor resistance is common in breast cancer. Here, the authors show that p16 overexpression may be linked to reduced efficacy of CDK4/6 inhibition, and show that the combination with PI3K inhibitors may increase anti-tumour effects.

Pattern of expression of immune- and stroma-associated genes in blood of mice with experimental B16 melanoma [PDF]

open access: yesThe Ukrainian Biochemical Journal, 2020
The interaction between malignant and stromal cells represents a major cross-talk pathway upon carcinogenesis. Cellular elements of the reactive tumor stroma are a heterogeneous population which are represented specifically by cancer-associated ...

Enzymatic Inactivation of Oxysterols in Breast Tumor Cells Constraints Metastasis Formation by Reprogramming the Metastatic Lung Microenvironment

open access: yesFrontiers in Immunology, 2018
Recent evidence indicates that immune cells contribute to the formation of tumor metastases by regulating the pre-metastatic niche. Whether tumor-derived factors involved in primary tumor formation play a role in metastasis formation is poorly ...

Transplantable melanomas in hamsters and gerbils as models for human melanoma : sensitization in melanoma radiotherapy : from animal models to clinical trials [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
The focus of the present review is to investigate the role of melanin in the radioprotection of melanoma and attempts to sensitize tumors to radiation by inhibiting melanogenesis. Early studies showed radical scavenging, oxygen consumption and adsorption

BRAF inhibition curtails IFN‐gamma‐inducible PD‐L1 expression and upregulates the immunoregulatory protein galectin‐1 in melanoma cells

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, 2020
Although melanoma is considered one of the most immunogenic malignancies, spontaneous T‐cell responses to melanoma antigens are ineffective due to tumor cell‐intrinsic or microenvironment‐driven immune evasion mechanisms.
