Impact of feeding bigheaded carp fish meal on meat quality and sensory attributes in organic broiler chickens

open access: yesJournal of Applied Poultry Research, 2022
SUMMARY: Novel protein feeds are needed in ecological and organic poultry production to supply natural sources of amino acids, particularly methionine. Synthetic amino acids are increasingly banned in certified organic production.

Influence of Different Methionine Sources on Performance and Slaughter Characteristics of Broilers

open access: yesAnimals, 2019
Sustainably produced poultry meat with consideration of animal health poses a challenge for broiler production. Low protein diets with high amounts of synthetic amino acids (AAs) like methionine (Met) are the consequence.

Transcriptional Regulation of Cysteine and Methionine Metabolism in Lactobacillus paracasei FAM18149

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2018
Lactobacillus paracasei is common in the non-starter lactic acid bacteria (LAB) community of raw milk cheeses. This species can significantly contribute to flavor formation through amino acid metabolism. In this study, the DNA and RNA of L.

Top-Down Characterization of an Antimicrobial Sanitizer, Leading From Quenchers of Efficacy to Mode of Action

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2020
We developed a top-down strategy to characterize an antimicrobial, oxidizing sanitizer, which has diverse proposed applications including surface-sanitization of fresh foods, and with benefits for water resilience. The strategy involved finding quenchers

Methionine – Au Nanoparticle Modified Glassy Carbon Electrode: a Novel Platform for Electrochemical Detection of Hydroquinone

open access: yesMedžiagotyra, 2014
A high sensitive electrochemical sensor based on methionine/gold nanoparticles (MET/AuNPs) modified glassy carbon electrode (GCE) was fabricated for the quantitative detection of hydroquinone (HQ).

Conversion of Methionine Hydroxy Analogue to Methionine in the Chick

open access: yesPoultry Science, 1965
Abstract SINCE the hydroxy analogue of methionine (2-hydroxy, 4-methylthiobutyric acid) will support the growth of rats and chickens (Block and Jackson, 1932; Gordon and Sizer, 1954; Bird, 1952) the mechanism of its conversion to methionine was investigated.

In vivo evidence for glycyl radical insertion into a catalytically inactive variant of pyruvate formate‐lyase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Dimeric pyruvate formate‐lyase cleaves pyruvate using a radical‐based mechanism. G734 serves as a radical storage location, and the radical is transferred to the catalytic C419 residue. Mutation of the C418‐C419 pair causes loss of enzyme activity, but does not impede radical introduction onto G734. Therefore, cis‐ but not trans‐radical transfer occurs

Disruption of SETD3‐mediated histidine‐73 methylation by the BWCFF‐associated β‐actin G74S mutation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The β‐actin G74S mutation causes altered interaction of actin with SETD3, reducing histidine‐73 methylation efficiency and forming two distinct actin variants. The variable ratio of these variants across cell types and developmental stages contributes to tissue‐specific phenotypical changes. This imbalance may impair actin dynamics and mechanosensitive

Design of an Antifungal Methionine Inhibitor Not Antagonized by Methionine.

open access: yesBiological and Pharmaceutical Bulletin, 1995
Only a few biosynthetic pathways in fungal cells have been used as antifungal targets. Therefore, the number of antifungals has been limited, and a cross-drug resistance among them has emerged in the therapy of mycoses. Under such circumstances, the identification of an antifungal with a new mode of action is highly desirable.

Peripheral blood proteome biomarkers distinguish immunosuppressive features of cancer progression

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Immune status significantly influences cancer progression. This study used plasma proteomics to analyze benign 67NR and malignant 4T1 breast tumor models at early and late tumor stages. Immune‐related proteins–osteopontin (Spp1), lactotransferrin (Ltf), calreticulin (Calr) and peroxiredoxin 2 (Prdx2)–were associated with systemic myeloid‐derived ...
