Exposure to exogenous enkephalins disrupts reproductive development in the Eastern lubber grasshopper, Romalea microptera (Insecta: Orthoptera). [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2012
Enkephalins play a major role in reproductive physiology in crustaceans; however their role in reproductive development in insects is largely unknown. We investigated the effect of exposure to exogenous leucine-enkephalin (Leu-Enk), methionine-enkephalin

Alkannin exerts antitumor properties in cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma by inducing apoptosis and shifting the M1/M2 polarization of tumor‐associated macrophages by upregulating PTEN

open access: yesThe Kaohsiung Journal of Medical Sciences, Volume 39, Issue 1, Page 70-79, January 2023., 2023
Abstract Cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma (CSCC) is a common cancer in humans and is the second major type of skin cancer that causes death in humans. In this article, we investigated the effects of alkannin on CSCC progression. We revealed that alkannin curbed CSCC cell viability in a dose‐dependent manner and accelerated CSCC cell apoptosis.

Synthesis of New Opioid Analgesic Peptide Analogues to Enkephalin (Leucine- and Methionine-Enkephalin)

open access: yesIraqi Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences, 2017
A small number of researches were done in the design and synthesis of enkephalin analogues that are able to resist degradation effect of proteolytic enzymes with good bioavailability and half-lives.Through studying structure activity relationships we ...

Computational Approach for Protein Structure Prediction [PDF]

open access: yesHealthcare Informatics Research, 2013
ObjectivesTo predict the structure of protein, which dictates the function it performs, a newly designed algorithm is developed which blends the concept of self-organization and the genetic algorithm.MethodsAmong many other approaches, genetic algorithm ...

Functional Characterization and Molecular Marker Development of the Proenkephalin as Biomarker of Food Addiction in Food Habit Domestication of Mandarin Fish (Siniperca chuatsi)

open access: yesFishes, 2022
Proenkephalin (PENK), as the precursor of endogenous opioid enkephalin (ENK), is widely present in the nervous system and plays an important role in animal food addiction and rewarding behavior.

‘Acetaldehyde‐enkephalins’: elucidation of the structure of the acetaldehyde adducts of methionine‐enkephalin and leucine‐enkephalin [PDF]

open access: yesFEBS Letters, 1980
The two major endogenous opioid pentapeptides, methionine-enkephalin and leucine-enkephalin [ 1,2] rapidly react with acetaldehyde, under very mild conditions, to give an ‘acetaldehyde-enkephalin’ adduct, referred to as ‘acetaldehyde-enkephalin [Met’] and ‘acetaldehyde-enkephalin [Leu”], respectively 231.

Methionine enkephalin: immunomodulator in normal volunteers, cancer and AIDS patients

open access: yesMemorias do Instituto Oswaldo Cruz, 1987
Clinical studies of the immunological effects of methionine enkephalin in normal volunteers, cancer, and AIDS patients are summarized. The major immunology changes seen were increases in T cell subsets, natural killer activity, as well as mitogen ...
