In vitro Effects of Antimicrobial Agents on Planktonic and Biofilm Forms of Staphylococcus saprophyticus Isolated From Patients With Urinary Tract Infections

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2019
Bacterial biofilms play an important role in urinary tract infections (UTIs), being responsible for persistent infections that lead to recurrences and relapses.

T‐Cell Remodeling in Renal Fibrosis: From Acute Injury to Chronic Kidney Disease

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 13, Issue 58, 19 October 2026.
This Review presents renal fibrosis as a sequence of overlapping T‐cell programs, from chemokine‐guided recruitment and metabolic activation to maladaptive polarization, tertiary lymphoid structure formation, tissue residency, exhaustion, and senescence.

MUC1-C is a master regulator of MICA/B NKG2D ligand and exosome secretion in human cancer cells

open access: yesJournal for ImmunoTherapy of Cancer, 2023
Background The MUC1-C protein evolved in mammals to protect barrier tissues from loss of homeostasis; however, MUC1-C promotes oncogenesis in association with chronic inflammation. Aberrant expression of MUC1-C in cancers has been linked to depletion and

Overview on Epstein–Barr Virus–Host Interactions With a Focus on Host Cell Transcriptome Alterations

open access: yesCell Biochemistry and Function, Volume 44, Issue 10, October 2026.
ABSTRACT The Epstein–Barr virus (EBV) belongs to the gamma subgroup of human herpesviruses. EBV is particularly lymphotropic regarding its latency, meaning that it preferentially targets lymphocytes as its immunological niche. During the establishment of the complex virus–host relationships, the virus influences the human host cell transcriptome ...

MICA Allelic Variation Modulates Secretion and Protein Flexibility, Impacting on NKG2D‐Mediated Immune Responses and Antibody Detection

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Immunology, Volume 56, Issue 10, October 2026.
Differential secretion mechanisms and predicted structural flexibility are described as additional effects of MICA polymorphism in the immune response. Structural features might explain impaired antibody recognition of certain MICA alleles, supporting that MICA genotyping should be considered in biomarker studies and NKG2D‐based therapeutic development.

The percentage of epithelial cells expressing MICA/MICB is increased with COPD severity.

open access: yes, 2014
Human lung tissue was dispersed and stained with monoclonal antibodies against CD45, CD56, NKG2D, CD326, and MICA/MICB. (A) Representative staining showing the expression of NKG2D on CD45+ CD56+ cells from a smoker without COPD (left panel) and a subject

Advances in γδ T Cells: Cutaneous Biology and Therapeutic Potential for Skin Neoplasms

open access: yesThe Journal of Dermatology, Volume 53, Issue 10, Page 1415-1428, October 2026.
ABSTRACT γδ T cells represent an increasingly important subset of T lymphocytes in the immune response to cancer and as a platform for novel immunotherapies. The aim of this review is to synthesize recent insights into the biology and advances in therapeutic applications of γδ T cells in cutaneous malignancies, especially melanoma, within a framework ...

5′-UTR and 3′-UTR Regulation of MICB Expression in Human Cancer Cells by Novel microRNAs

open access: yes, 2017
The treatment of cancer through the induction of natural killer group 2, member D (NKG2D) ligands is of interest, but understanding of mechanisms controlling expression of individual ligand is limited.
