The micronucleus assay in radiation accidents [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
The cytokinesis-block micronucleus assay in peripheral blood lymphocytes is a standardised and validated technique for biodosimetry. Automated scoring of micronuclei allows large scale applications as in population triage in case of radiation accidents ...

Redefining Therapies for Drug‐Resistant Tuberculosis: Synergistic Effects of Antimicrobial Peptides, Nanotechnology, and Computational Design

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Antimicrobial peptide (AMP)‐loaded nanocarriers provide a multifunctional strategy to combat drug‐resistant Mycobacterium tuberculosis. By enhancing intracellular delivery, bypassing efflux pumps, and disrupting bacterial membranes, this platform restores phagolysosome fusion and macrophage function.

Assessment of the genotoxicity of olive mill waste water (OMWW) with the Vicia faba micronucleus test [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
The present study concerns the genotoxicity of olive mill waste water (OMWW) generated in mills producing olive oil in Morocco. The Vicia faba micronucleus test was used to evaluate the genotoxicity of OMWW and the six major phenolic compounds identified

A Testis‐Specific Aralkylamine N‐Acetyltransferase Regulates Dimorphic Sperm Function and Male Fertility in Moths

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
We identify a Lepidoptera‐conserved testis‐specific arylalkylamine N‐acetyltransferase (LTNAT) that governs male moth fertility via a novel mechanism. LTNAT loss disrupts eupyrene sperm mitochondrial derivatives and impairs apyrene sperm motility, offering a safe molecular target for innovative pesticides and genetic pest control.

Ciliados (Protozoa) de sedimentos secos de una charca temporaria de la Argentina [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Temporary ponds represent special environments that are inhabited by organisms adapted to changing environmental conditions. Ciliates are able to survive complete loss of water in these transient habitats through cyst formation. Nevertheless, ciliates

Selenium Nanomaterials for Wound Healing: Synergistic Strategies from Anti‐Infection to Tissue Regeneration

open access: yesAdvanced NanoBiomed Research, EarlyView.
Selenium nanoparticles (SeNPs) are emerging as multifunctional platforms for wound healing, integrating antimicrobial, anti‐inflammatory, and proregenerative activities. This review summarises key mechanisms and recent advances in SeNP‐enabled composite dressings, immunomodulatory nanocomposites, microenvironment‐responsive hydrogels, photothermal and ...

Extracting and analyzing micronuclei from mouse two-cell embryos fertilized with freeze-dried spermatozoa

open access: yesCommunications Biology
Abnormal chromosome segregation (ACS) in preimplantation embryos causes miscarriages. For a normal pregnancy, it is necessary to reduce ACS occurrences in embryos.

Cancer cells’ chamber of secrets: the link between micronuclei, chromothripsis and malignancy

open access: yesOpen Biology
Micronuclei exhibit defective proteomes rendering their chromatin vulnerable to fragmentation. This fragmentation process, known as chromothripsis, promotes tumorigenesis by catalysing the activation of oncogenes and the silencing of tumor suppressors ...

Evaluation of micronuclei in oral mucosa of individuals exposed to ionizing radiation: a pilot study from Celaya, México

open access: yesCentral Asian Journal of Global Health, 2019
Introduction: Occupational exposure to ionizing radiation can potentially lead to adverse health effects, including cancer and genetic defects. Genetic damage caused by radiation can be detected if micronuclei are observed.

Kastoria and Mikri Prespa Lakes: The Impact of Anthropogenic Activities on the Differentiation in the Genotoxic and Toxic Profile of the Surface Water

open access: yesLand, 2022
Urban–industrial and agricultural waste can add significant amounts of pollutants to surface water. Therefore, the surface water from Mikri Prespa and Kastoria lakes was assessed for its toxic, genotoxic, and cytotoxic effects.
