Design of a Mobile Microrobot Based on Standing and Travelling Waves

open access: yesInternational Journal of Advanced Robotic Systems, 2013
The design of a mobile microrobot based on standing and travelling waves is proposed and analysed in this paper. Numerical modelling based on the finite element method is performed to find the resonant frequencies and modal shapes of a microrobot, and to

Stabilization of Microrobot Motion Characteristics in Liquid Media

open access: yesMicromachines, 2018
Magnetically actuated microrobot in a liquid media is faced with the problem of head-tilting reaction caused by its hydrodynamic structure and its speed while moving horizontally.

Rapid Fabrication of Self‐Propelled and Steerable Magnetic Microcatheters for Precision Medicine

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
A rapid Joule heating fabrication method for the production of self‐propelling, adaptive microcatheters, with tunable stiffness and integrated microfluidic channels is presented. Demonstrated through three microrobotic designs, including a steerable guiding catheter, an untethered wave‐crawling TubeBot, and a distal‐end propelled microcatheter, it was ...

Miniaturized Rotary Actuators Using Shape Memory Alloy for Insect-Type MEMS Microrobot

open access: yesMicromachines, 2016
Although several types of locomotive microrobots have been developed, most of them have difficulty locomoting on uneven surfaces. Thus, we have been focused on microrobots that can locomote using step patterns.

Liquid Metal Microrobots for Magnetically Guided Transvascular Navigation

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Liquid metal‐based microrobots combine magnetic steering, intrinsic X‐ray visibility and softness, to navigate blood vessels even against flow. Under clinically relevant magnetic fields, liquid metal microrobots roll along vessel walls, cross endothelial barriers, and accumulate in target tissues.

Two‐Photon 3D Printing of Functional Microstructures Inside Living Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
This study demonstrates 3D printing inside living cells by using two‐photon photo‐lithography. A bio‐compatible photoresist is injected into cells and selectively polymerized with a femtosecond laser, creating custom‐shaped intracellular structures with submicron resolution.

A Two-Dimensional Manipulation Method for a Magnetic Microrobot with a Large Region of Interest Using a Triad of Electromagnetic Coils

open access: yesMicromachines, 2022
This paper proposes an effective method to manipulate the 2D motions of a magnetic small-scale robot (microrobot) within a relatively large working area using a triad of electromagnetic coils (TEC).

Soft Bio-Microrobots

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, 2023
Soft bio-microrobots have the potential to execute complex tasks in unexpected and harsh environments of the human body due to their dexterity and flexibility. The architectural designs of soft bio-microrobots either replicate the motion of natural creatures or capitalize on their motility.

Photochemical Fuel Carrier Molecules for Robotic Embodied Energy

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
We designed a novel fuel carrier photoresponsive molecule for on‐demand energy storage and release. Carrier molecules undergo bond scission under UV light to release chemical fuel and locally generate propulsive Marangoni flows. We demonstrate this photochemical embodied energy strategy in small‐scale robots and active matter systems, enabling ...
