Midkine can not be accepted as a new biomarker for unexplained female infertility

open access: yesTürk Biyokimya Dergisi, 2023
This study aimed to investigate whether a growth factor and a cytokine midkine (MK) can be a new biomarker for the diagnosis and treatment of unexplained female infertility (UFI) cases.

Cancer Cell‐Intrinsic Cholesterol Induces Lipid‐Associated Macrophage Differentiation via SP1 Palmitoylation to Promote Prostate Cancer Progression

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Cancer cell‐intrinsic cholesterol promotes the S‐palmitoylation of SP1, increasing its nuclear translocation and driving the transcription and secretion of MDK, which in turn facilitates the differentiation of macrophages into a lipid‐associated phenotype.

Nuclear translocation and signalling of L1-CAM in human carcinoma cells requires ADAM10 and presenilin/gamma-secretase activity [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
L1-CAM (L1 cell-adhesion molecule), or more simply L1, plays an important role in the progression of human carcinoma. Overexpression promotes tumour-cell invasion and motility, growth in nude mice and tumour metastasis.

Sitagliptin Modulates Oxidative, Nitrative and Halogenative Stress and Inflammatory Response in Rat Model of Hepatic Ischemia-Reperfusion

open access: yesAntioxidants, 2021
A possibility of repurposing sitagliptin, a well-established antidiabetic drug, for alleviating injury caused by ischemia-reperfusion (IR) is being researched.

Dienogest mediates midkine suppression in endometriosis [PDF]

open access: yesHuman Reproduction, 2016
What are the effects of dienogest (DNG) on midkine (MK) production in women with endometriosis?DNG-mediated down-regulation of MK in vivo and in vitro.DNG is an oral progestin that alleviates painful symptoms of women with endometriosis with a favourable tolerability and safety profile. Its effects on MK, a growth factor that plays an important role in

DSG2+ Cancer Stem Cells Co‐Located With FAP+ Myofibroblasts in the Tumor Boundary That Determines the Efficacy of Immunotherapy in Non‐Small Cell Lung Cancer

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Cancer stem cells (CSCs) in non‐small cell lung cancer display pronounced plasticity and spatial heterogeneity. By integrating single‐cell and spatial transcriptomics, this study defines a DSG2‐associated CSC program and reveals a tumor‐margin niche formed with FAP+ myofibroblasts.

Serum biomarker for diagnostic evaluation of pulmonary arterial hypertension in systemic sclerosis

open access: yesArthritis Research & Therapy, 2018
Background Systemic sclerosis-associated pulmonary arterial hypertension (SSc-PAH) is one of the leading causes of death in SSc. Identification of a serum-based proteomic diagnostic biomarker for SSc-PAH would allow for rapid non-invasive screening and ...

Study of three novel biomarkers, MR-proADM, midkine, and stromelysin2, and peripheral atherosclerosis in a Chinese Han population: A case-control study

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Inflammation, 2020
Midregional pro-adrenomedullin (MR-proADM), midkine, and stromelysin2 (ST2) are novel cardiac biomarkers associated with heart failure and atherosclerotic diseases like stable ischemic disease and acute coronary syndrome.

Midkine—A novel player in cardiovascular diseases

open access: yesFrontiers in Cardiovascular Medicine, 2022
Midkine (MK) is a 13-kDa heparin-binding cytokine and growth factor with anti-apoptotic, pro-angiogenic, pro-inflammatory and anti-infective functions, that enable it to partake in a series of physiological and pathophysiological processes. In the past, research revolving around MK has concentrated on its roles in reproduction and development, tissue ...
