Human MicroRNA miR-532-5p Exhibits Antiviral Activity against West Nile Virus via Suppression of Host Genes SESTD1 and TAB3 Required for Virus Replication [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Virology, 2016
ABSTRACT West Nile virus (WNV) is a mosquito-transmitted flavivirus that naturally circulates between mosquitos and birds but can also infect humans, causing severe neurological disease. The early host response to WNV infection in vertebrates primarily relies on the type I interferon pathway; however, recent studies suggest that ...

Familial adenomatous patients with desmoid tumours show increased expression of miR-34a in serum and high levels in tumours

open access: yes, 2016
Familial adenomatous polyposis (FAP) is rare affecting 1 in 10,000 people and a subset (10%) are at risk of myofibroblastic desmoid tumours (DTs) after colectomy to prevent cancer. DTs are a major cause of morbidity and mortality.

Infected erythrocyte-derived extracellular vesicles alter vascular function via regulatory Ago2-miRNA complexes in malaria [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Malaria remains one of the greatest public health challenges worldwide, particularly in sub-Saharan Africa. The clinical outcome of individuals infected with Plasmodium falciparum parasites depends on many factors including host systemic inflammatory ...

Chiral Acoustic Phonon and Conservation of Pseudoangular Momentum in α‐Quartz

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Chiral acoustic phonons in α‐quartz are probed via Brillouin light scattering, exploiting the photon's helicity and the crystal's handedness. The interaction obeys a selection rule arising from pseudoangular momentum conservation, enabling direct optical access to phonon chirality in nonsymmorphic crystals.

Placental microRNA expression associates with birthweight through control of adipokines: results from two independent cohorts

open access: yesEpigenetics, 2021
MicroRNAs are non-coding RNAs that regulate gene expression post-transcriptionally. In the placenta, the master regulator of foetal growth and development, microRNAs shape the basic processes of trophoblast biology and specific microRNA have been ...

Machine Learning to Detect Alzheimer's Disease from Circulating Non-coding RNAs [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Blood-borne small non-coding (sncRNAs) are among the prominent candidates for blood-based diagnostic tests. Often, high-throughput approaches are applied to discover biomarker signatures.

CHB‐Induced Immune Zonation Chaos Elicited LXRα‐mediated Lipid Metabolism Disorders in Kupffer Cells to Induce Cancer Stem Cell Formation

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
By profiling the spatiotemporal hepatic landscape of CHB mouse models, the originally peri‐portal localized KCs migrated to the peri‐central in a CXCL9‐CXCR3‐dependent manner, facilitating their interaction with HBV+ hepatocytes. The interaction promoted LMD in KCs through ASGR1‐induced LXRα degradation, which, in turn, induced CSC formation via Stat3 ...

Screening and molecular mechanism research on bile microRNAs associated with chemotherapy efficacy in perihilar cholangiocarcinoma

open access: yesiScience
Summary: The efficacy of hepatic arterial infusion chemotherapy (HAIC) with oxaliplatin (OXA) and 5-fluorouracil (5-Fu) for treating advanced perihilar cholangiocarcinoma (pCCA) has been demonstrated, yet the survival benefits of HAIC for pCCA patients ...

Association of recurrent venous thromboembolism and circulating microRNAs

open access: yesClinical Epigenetics, 2019
Background Patients with unprovoked first venous thromboembolism (VTE) are at a high risk of recurrence. Although circulating microRNAs (miRNAs) have been found to be associated with VTE and are markers of hypercoagulability, this study is the first to ...

A Hydrodynamic Bioreactor for High‐Yield Production of Extracellular Vesicles from Stem Cell Spheroids with Defined Cargo Profiling

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study harnesses hydrodynamic flows to generate, confine and stimulate stem cell spheroids, enabling the large‐scale production of extracellular vesicles (EVs). This innovative method not only streamlines spheroid formation and subsequent EV release in a single, integrated process, but also ensures the generation of EVs with enhanced biological ...
