Mitochondrial Abundance and Function Differ Across Muscle Within Species
Background: Mitochondria are considered the powerhouse of cells, and skeletal muscle cells are no exception. However, information regarding muscle mitochondria from different species is limited.

Emerging functions of mammalian mitochondrial fusion and fission [PDF]
Mitochondria provide a myriad of services to the cell, including energy production, calcium buffering and regulation of apoptosis. How these diverse functions are coordinated among the hundreds of mitochondria in a given cell is largely unknown, but is ...

ELABELA Targets Mitochondria to Modulate Heart Development
The role of peptide ELABELA (ELA) in cardiomyocyte apoptosis and congenital heart disease (CHD) is unclear. ELA deficiency caused cardiomyocyte apoptosis and CHD. A novel ELA‐APJ‐AKT‐BCL2/BAX axis in regulating mitochondrial function and contributing to CHD pathogenesis was established.

This study identifies the HDAC6/GATA4/HtrA1 axis as a critical driver of cellular senescence in the inner ear. GATA4 nuclear translocation, facilitated by HDAC6 downregulation, transcriptionally activates HtrA1, promoting hair cell senescence, SASP, and audio‐vestibular dysfunction in models of Ménière's disease and age‐related audio‐vestibular ...

Transmission Electron Microscopy for Analysis of Mitochondria in Mouse Skeletal Muscle
Skeletal muscle is the most abundant tissue in the human body and regulates a variety of functions including locomotion and whole-body metabolism. Skeletal muscle has a plethora of mitochondria, the organelles that are essential for aerobic generation of

A flexible, ultrathin multi‐channel microelectrode array (MEA) conformally integrated onto a curved slide‐well enables stable electrical interfacing with 3D cardiac organoids. The geometry‐guided self‐alignment allows simultaneous recording of extracellular field potentials and contractile motion from irregular, beating tissues.

Higher PLIN5 but not PLIN3 content in isolated skeletal muscle mitochondria following acute in vivo contraction in rat hindlimb [PDF]
Contraction-mediated lipolysis increases the association of lipid droplets and mitochondria, indicating an important role in the passage of fatty acids from lipid droplets to mitochondria in skeletal muscle.

THE STRUCTURE OF PIGEON BREAST MUSCLE MITOCHONDRIA [PDF]
The structure of pigeon breast muscle mitochondria was studied both in whole muscle tissue and in mitochondrial fractions separated by differential centrifugation. No evidence was found to indicate that the mitochondria of pigeon breast muscle differ in any fundamental way from those of other tissues. In particular the absence of an enveloping membrane,

This study established an RT‐MSCs‐based therapeutic approach for scleroderma in mice. RT‐MSCs attenuated fibrosis by regulating mitochondrial autophagy and restored gut microbiota homeostasis. Metabolomic analyses confirmed recovery of key metabolites, and RT‐MSCs demonstrated favorable lesion targeting and safety profiles.
