MR1-dependent antigen presentation [PDF]
MR1 is a non-classical class I molecule that is highly conserved among mammals. Though discovered in 1995, only recently have MR1 ligands and antigens for MR1-restricted T cells been described. Unlike the traditional class I molecules HLA-A, -B, and -C, little MR1 is on the cell surface.

MR1 antigen presentation to MAIT cells and other MR1-restricted T cells
Nature Reviews Immunology, 2023MHC antigen presentation plays a fundamental role in adaptive and semi-invariant T cell immunity. Distinct MHC molecules bind antigens that differ in chemical structure, origin and location and present them to specialized T cells. MHC class I-related protein 1 (MR1) presents a range of small molecule antigens to MR1-restricted T (MR1T) lymphocytes. The

Conserved allomorphs of MR1 drive specificity of MR1-restricted TCRs
2023Abstract Major histocompatibility complex class-1-related protein (MR1), unlike human leukocyte antigen (HLA) class-1, has until recently been reported to be monomorphic. Tumor cell-specific MR1 restricted T cell receptors (TCRs) have been described, offering potential therapeutic application for cancer treatment.

Mucosal-associated invariant T (MAIT) cells are innate-like T cells that are modulated by ligands presented on MHC class I-related proteins (MR1). These cells have attracted attention as potential drug targets because of their involvement in the initial response to infection and various disorders.

MR1 presents vitamin B6–related compounds for recognition by MR1-reactive T cells
The major histocompatibility complex class I related protein (MR1) presents microbially derived vitamin B2 precursors to mucosal-associated invariant T (MAIT) cells. MR1 can also present other metabolites to activate MR1-restricted T cells expressing more diverse T cell receptors (TCRs), some with anti-tumor reactivity.

The moment of MR1 discovery is described. The MR1 gene is the first and the last reported human MHC-related gene intentionally isolated from the human genome composed of three billion base pairs. Evolutionary considerations formed the basis of its isolation.

Human MR1 is a recently discovered, ubiquitously transcribed gene very similar to the HLA class I loci and of unknown function. Mouse and rat MR1 sequences have also been described showing high similarity with the human gene. The goal of this work was to investigate if human MR1 was polymorphic.

Nucleobase adducts bind MR1 and stimulate MR1-restricted T cells
Science ImmunologyMR1T cells are a recently found class of T cells that recognize antigens presented by the major histocompatibility complex-I–related molecule MR1 in the absence of microbial infection. The nature of the self-antigens that stimulate MR1T cells remains unclear, hampering our understanding of their physiological role and therapeutic potential.

MAITs, MR1 and vitamin B metabolites
Current Opinion in Immunology, 2014αβT-cell mediated immunity is traditionally characterised by recognition of peptides or lipids presented by the major histocompatibility complex (MHC) or the CD1 family respectively. Recently the antigenic repertoire of αβT-cells has been expanded with the observation that mucosal-associated invariant T-cells (MAIT cells), an abundant population of ...

Cardiac MR1 and peripartum cardiomyopathy
International Journal of Cardiology, 2010Cardiac MRI brings great benefits in the comprehension of the mechanism(s) involved in the genesis of peripartum cardiomyopathy (PPC). Cardiac MRI may also procure prognostic information. Because this is a rare affection, it seems necessary to systematically study PPC with this safe, non invasive and reliable tool.
