Neuropharmacological spectrum of muscimol

Life Sciences, 1979
Abstract Muscimol was tested in comparison with a series of reference compounds in a variety of situations in which GABA-related drugs are known to have an effect. Muscimol blocked the convulsions and/or lethality due to picrotoxinin, strychnine and a low dose of bicuculline.

Potentiation of morphine analgesia by muscimol

Neuropharmacology, 1977
The injection of 0.15 to 0.2 mg/kg of muscimol intravenously, lowered the ED50 dose of morphine in mice and rats.

MUSCIMOL ANTAGONISM OF MORPHINE ANALGESIA IN RATS

British Journal of Pharmacology, 1979
Muscimol, a γ‐aminobutyric acid (GABA) receptor agonist, when injected intraventricularly antagonizes the antinociceptive effect of morphine given either subcutaneously or intraventricularly. The antagonistic effect of muscimol on morphine analgesia appears to be linearly related.

Anticonvulsant effects of muscimol

Neurology, 1980
Muscimol is a potent agonist at GABA-inhibitory synapses in mammalian brain. Given systemically at 7 mumol per kilogram, it blocks topical penicillin seizures and delays the onset of generalized metrazol convulsions in rats. It has no effect against generalized seizures caused by picrotoxin or strychnine.

Muscimol-induced myoclonic jerks in mice

Neuropharmacology, 1981
Abstract Muscimol produced myoclonic jerks in mice. The manifestation of this response required a minimum dose of 2 mg/kg (i.p.). These jerks, involving the hind quarter of the animals, commenced after a latent period of 6–10 min, were more or less rhythmic, peaked between 27 and 45 min and slowly tapered off thereafter.

Conformational analysis of muscimol, a GABA agonist

Journal of Theoretical Biology, 1979
Abstract The potential energy barriers for rotation around the C5C6 bond in muscimol and two related isoxazoles have been calculated using the MINDO/3 molecular orbital method. The preferred conformations have N7C6C5C4 torsion angles near ± 100 °, in agreement with crystallographic data.

Disinhibition of muricide and irritability by intraseptal muscimol

Pharmacology Biochemistry and Behavior, 1983
In two experiments we have found and replicated the observation that intraseptal muscimol profoundly facilitates muricide. It also increases irritability (response to handling). These effects are specific to aggressive behaviors in that the drug affects neither activity nor chocolate chip acceptance.

The effect of muscimol on hippocampal pyramidal cells

European Journal of Pharmacology, 1979
The effects of muscimol on rabbit hippocampal pyramidal cell firing were studied and compared after iontophoretic, topical, and intravenous administration of the drug. All modes of application resulted in a bicuculline-sensitive, strychnine-insensitive, depression of the monosynaptically activated population spike evoked by micro-stimulation of the ...
