Occurrence, Risk Factors, and Prognosis of Acute Cerebral Microinfarcts in CADASIL
ABSTRACT Introduction Cerebral autosomal dominant arteriopathy with subcortical infarcts and leukoencephalopathy (CADASIL) is the most common monogenic cerebral small vessel disease in adults. This study investigates the occurrence, risk factors, and prognosis of acute cerebral microinfarcts (ACMIs) in patients with CADASIL.

Vascular smooth muscle cell dysfunction in neurodegeneration
Vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMCs) are the key moderators of cerebrovascular dynamics in response to the brain’s oxygen and nutrient demands. Crucially, VSMCs may provide a sensitive biomarker for neurodegenerative pathologies where vasculature is ...

MicroRNA26 attenuates vascular smooth muscle maturation via endothelial BMP signalling.
As small regulatory transcripts, microRNAs (miRs) act as genetic 'fine tuners' of posttranscriptional events, and as genetic switches to promote phenotypic switching. The miR miR26a targets the BMP signalling effector, smad1.

Smad7 Misexpression during Embryonic Angiogenesis Causes Vascular Dilation and Malformations Independently of Vascular Smooth Muscle Cell Function [PDF]
Numerous in vitro and in vivo studies implicate transforming growth factor-β (TGFβ) superfamily signaling in vascular development and maintenance. Mice and humans with mutations in TGFβ superfamily signaling pathway genes exhibit a range of vascular ...

Shape Memory Polymer‐Based Hook‐and‐Loop Fastener for Robust Bonding and on‐Demand Easy Separation
A 3D shape memory polymer‐based hook‐and‐loop fastener, fabricated using projection microstereolithography and molding, offers tunable bonding strength through temperature control. When heated from 25 to 70 °C, the fastener softens and deforms easily, reducing bonding strength by 20‐fold for on‐demand easy separation.

Spontaneous contractile dynamics of the vascular smooth muscle of the external carotid artery
Introduction: The external carotid is a muscle artery irrigating all components of the masticatory system, so that the regulation of the contractile dynamics of its vascular smooth muscle is important.

Simulations demonstrate a simple network to be sufficient to control branch point selection, smooth muscle and vasculature formation during lung branching morphogenesis [PDF]
Proper lung functioning requires not only a correct structure of the conducting airway tree, but also the simultaneous development of smooth muscles and vasculature. Lung branching morphogenesis is strongly stereotyped and involves the recursive use of only three modes of branching.

Maintenance of GLUT4 expression in smooth muscle prevents hypertension‐induced changes in vascular reactivity [PDF]
Previous studies have shown that expression of GLUT4 is decreased in arterial smooth muscle of hypertensive rats and mice and that total body overexpression of GLUT4 in mice prevents enhanced arterial reactivity in hypertension.
