A Novel Strategy to Predict Carcinogenicity of Antiparasitics Based on a Combination of DNA Lesions and Bacterial Mutagenicity Tests [PDF]

open access: yesFrontiers in Public Health, 2017
Genotoxicity and carcinogenicity testing of pharmaceuticals prior to commercialization is requested by regulatory agencies. The bacterial mutagenicity test was considered having the highest accuracy of carcinogenic prediction.

Application of Mutagenicity Test for Milk

open access: bronzeJournal of Dairy Science, 1980
Mutagenic activity in milk and milk products was tested by the Salmonella mammalian-microsome mutagenicity test (Ames test). Salmonella mutants susceptible to base-pair substitution and frame-shift mutagens gave positive results with heat-sterilized milk, particularly after activation by the S-9 fraction of microsomes.

Mutagenicity and cytotoxicity tests of garlic

open access: yesThe Journal of Toxicological Sciences, 1984
Mutagenicity and cytotoxicity of fresh juice and alcohol extract from garlic were studied by Ames' test, Rec assay, Micronucleus test and the check of the influence to HEp 2 and chinese hamster embryo (CHE) primary cultured cells. No evidence of mutagenicity of these samples were observed in Ames' test and Rec assay, while there was dose dependent ...

MUTAGENICITY TESTS OF ETOPOSIDE AND TENIPOSIDE

open access: yesThe Journal of Toxicological Sciences, 1986
Mutagenicities of Etoposide (VP 16-213) and Teniposide (VM-26), podophyllotoxin derivatives with antitumor activity, were studied by Rec-assay, Salmonella/microsome reverse mutation assay (Ames' test) and Micronucleus test. In the Rec-assay, both Etoposide and Teniposide showed positive results on B. subtilis H17 rec+ and M45 rec-.

Yeast grown in continuous culture systems can detect mutagens with improved sensitivity relative to the Ames test.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2021
Continuous culture systems allow for the controlled growth of microorganisms over a long period of time. Here, we develop a novel test for mutagenicity that involves growing yeast in continuous culture systems exposed to low levels of mutagen for a ...
