Lipid and basic protein interaction in myelin [PDF]

open access: yesBiochemical Journal, 1974
1. Purified myelin labelled with [3H]myo-inositol or [1-14C]acetate was incubated with trypsin or acetylated trypsin at 37°C, pH8.0 for 30min. 2. After incubation and centrifugation analysis of the myelin pellet showed marked digestion of basic protein on polyacrylamide-gel electrophoresis. Proteolipid and Wolfgram proteins remained unchanged. 3.

Phosphorylation of Myelin Basic Protein

open access: yesJournal of Biological Chemistry, 1974
Myelin membranes prepared from rat brain possess both the enzyme and substrates to incorporate 32P from [γ-32P]ATP into membrane protein constituents. Of the myelin polypeptides, only the two basic proteins were phosphorylated; and both components appeared to be equally good substrates for endogenous or added protein kinases.

Non-Thermal Mechanism of Weak Microwave Fields Influence on Nerve Fiber [PDF]

open access: yesJ. Appl. Phys. 114, 104701 (2013), 2013
We propose a non-thermal mechanism of weak microwave field impact on a nerve fiber. It is shown that in the range of about 30 - 300 GHz there are strongly pronounced resonances associated with the excitation of ultrasonic vibrations in the membrane as a result of interaction with electromagnetic radiation.

Chronic Unpredictable Stress Reduces Immunostaining for Connexins 43 and 30 and Myelin Basic Protein in the Rat Prelimbic and Orbitofrontal Cortices

open access: yesChronic Stress, 2018
Background Astrocytes and oligodendrocytes are pathologically altered in dorsolateral prefrontal and orbitofrontal cortices in major depressive disorder.

Loss of Myelin Basic Protein Function Triggers Myelin Breakdown in Models of Demyelinating Diseases

open access: yesCell Reports, 2016
Breakdown of myelin sheaths is a pathological hallmark of several autoimmune diseases of the nervous system. We employed autoantibody-mediated animal models of demyelinating diseases, including a rat model of neuromyelitis optica (NMO), to target myelin ...

Unresolved excess accumulation of myelin-derived cholesterol contributes to scar formation after spinal cord injury [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2022
Background: Spinal cord injury triggers complex pathological cascades, resulting in destructive tissue damage and incomplete tissue repair. Scar formation is generally considered as a barrier for regeneration in central nervous system (CNS), while the intrinsic mechanism of scar-forming after spinal cord injury has not been completed deciphered ...

A space-fractional cable equation for the propagation of action potentials in myelinated neurons [PDF]

open access: yesEmerging Science Journal, Vol. 4, No. 3: 148-164, 2020, 2020
Myelinated neurons are characterized by the presence of myelin, a multilaminated wrapping around the axons formed by specialized neuroglial cells. Myelin acts as an electrical insulator and therefore, in myelinated neurons, the action potentials do not propagate within the axons but happen only at the nodes of Ranvier which are gaps in the axonal ...

Age-dependent differences in myelin basic protein expression in the hippocampus of young, adult and aged gerbils

open access: yesLaboratory Animal Research, 2017
Myelin degeneration is one of the characteristics of aging and degenerative diseases. This study investigated age-related alterations in expression of myelin basic protein (MBP) in the hippocampal subregions (dentate gyrus, CA2/3 and CA1 areas) of ...

A companion to the preclinical common data elements and case report forms for neuropathology studies in epilepsy research. A report of the TASK3 WG2 Neuropathology Working Group of the ILAE/AES Joint Translational Task Force

open access: yesEpilepsia Open, EarlyView., 2022
Abstract The International League Against Epilepsy/American Epilepsy Society (ILAE/AES) Joint Translational Task Force initiated the TASK3 working group to create common data elements (CDEs) for various aspects of preclinical epilepsy research studies, which could help improve the standardization of experimental designs.

Central and peripheral dysmyelination in a 3‐year‐old girl with ring chromosome 18

open access: yesClinical Case Reports, 2019
Myelin basic protein (MBP) contributes to peripheral and central nervous system myelin. Developmental myelinopathies exist on a clinical spectrum, but MBP is not included on leukodystrophy or CMT gene panels.
