Levodopa responsiveness and white matter alterations in Parkinson's disease: A DTI‐based study and brain network analysis: A cross‐sectional study

open access: yesBrain and Behavior, Volume 12, Issue 12, December 2022., 2022
Abstract Background Patients with Parkinson's disease (PD) present various responsiveness to levodopa, but the cause of such differences in levodopa responsiveness is unclear. Previous studies related the damage of brain white matter (WM) to levodopa responsiveness in PD patients, but no study investigated the relationship between the structural brain ...

gACSON software for automated segmentation and morphology analyses of myelinated axons in 3D electron microscopy [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2021
Background and Objective: Advances in electron microscopy (EM) now allow three-dimensional (3D) imaging of hundreds of micrometers of tissue with nanometer-scale resolution, providing new opportunities to study the ultrastructure of the brain. In this work, we introduce a freely available Matlab-based gACSON software for visualization, segmentation ...

Mechanical waves in myelinated axon wall [PDF]

open access: yes, 2021
The propagation of an action potential is accompanied by mechanical and thermal effects. Several mathematical models explain the deformation of the unmyelinated axon wall. In this paper, the deformation of the myelinated axon wall is studied. The mathematical model is inspired by the mechanics of microstructured materials.

Epac and the high affinity rolipram binding conformer of PDE4 modulate neurite outgrowth and myelination using an in vitro spinal cord injury model [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Background and Purpose

cAMP and pharmacological inhibition of PDE4, which degrades it, are promising therapeutic targets for the treatment of spinal cord injury (SCI).

Exogenous lipids in myelination and myelination.

open access: yesThe Kaohsiung journal of medical sciences, 1997
Myelinogenesis is a scheduled process that depends on both the intrinsic properties of the cell and extracellular signals. In rat brain, myelin development is an essentially postnatal event and environmental interferences could affect myelin synthesis. Nutrition plays an important role, since severe postnatal malnutrition and essential fatty acid (EFA)

Structure and evolution of neuronal wiring receptors and ligands

open access: yesDevelopmental Dynamics, Volume 252, Issue 1, Page 27-60, January 2023., 2023
Abstract One of the fundamental properties of a neuronal circuit is the map of its connections. The cellular and developmental processes that allow for the growth of axons and dendrites, selection of synaptic targets, and formation of functional synapses use neuronal surface receptors and their interactions with other surface receptors, secreted ...

On the stability and growth of single myelin figures [PDF]

open access: yesPhys. Rev. Lett. 96, 138301 (2006), 2005
Myelin figures are long thin cylindrical structures that typically grow as a dense tangle when water is added to the concentrated lamellar phase of certain surfactants. We show that, starting from a well-ordered initial state, single myelin figures can be produced in isolation thus allowing a detailed study of their growth and stability.

Axin2 as regulatory and therapeutic target in newborn brain injury and remyelination. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Permanent damage to white matter tracts, comprising axons and myelinating oligodendrocytes, is an important component of brain injuries of the newborn that cause cerebral palsy and cognitive disabilities, as well as multiple sclerosis in adults. However,

A companion to the preclinical common data elements and case report forms for neuropathology studies in epilepsy research. A report of the TASK3 WG2 Neuropathology Working Group of the ILAE/AES Joint Translational Task Force

open access: yesEpilepsia Open, EarlyView., 2022
Abstract The International League Against Epilepsy/American Epilepsy Society (ILAE/AES) Joint Translational Task Force initiated the TASK3 working group to create common data elements (CDEs) for various aspects of preclinical epilepsy research studies, which could help improve the standardization of experimental designs.
