Sodium dodecyl sulfate-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis and western blotting comparisons of purified myofibrils and whole muscle preparations for evaluating titin and nebulin in postmortem bovine muscle [PDF]
Purified myofibril (MF) and homogenized whole muscle (WM) samples were prepared from A maturity market steers. Samples were removed at 0, 1, 3, 7, 14, and 28 d postmortem.

Development of an efficient mice model of cancer‐associated cardiac cachexia
This work establishes a preclinical framework for targeting ubiquitin pathways to mitigate the morbidity of cancer‐related cardiopathy. Our integrated approach delineates a hierarchical progression from subcellular dysfunction to macroscopic cardiac deterioration. These findings mechanistically link tumor‐induced cachexia to cardiac dysfunction through

Highly Homologous Filamin Polypeptides Have Different Distributions in Avian Slow and Fast Muscle Fibers [PDF]
The high molecular weight actin-binding protein filamin is located at the periphery of the Z disk in the fast adult chicken pectoral muscle (Gomer, R. H., and E. Lazarides, 1981, Cell, 23: 524-532).

Force–length relation of skeletal muscles: from sarcomeres to myofibril
Sarcomeres are building blocks of skeletal muscles. Given force–length relations of sarcomeres serially connected in a myofibril, the myofibril force–length relation can be uniquely determined.

Chromosome movement in lysed mitotic cells is inhibited by vanadate. [PDF]
Mitotic PtK1 cells, lysed at anaphase into a carbowax 20 M Brij 58 solution, continue to move chromosomes toward the spindle poles and to move the spindle poles apart at 50% in vivo rates for 10 min.

Gill transcriptome response to changes in environmental calcium in the green spotted puffer fish [PDF]
Background Calcium ion is tightly regulated in body fluids and for euryhaline fish, which are exposed to rapid changes in environmental [Ca2+], homeostasis is especially challenging. The gill is the main organ of active calcium uptake and therefore plays

ABSTRACT This study explored fasting‐induced physiological remodeling effects on meat quality in aged laying hens. Fasting for 15 days (F15) significantly reduced abdominal fat, intermuscular fat width, subcutaneous fat thickness, and liver index versus pre‐fasting (F0) (p < 0.05), which recovered post‐refeeding.

Mechanisms of light in regulating the chick pineal clock. Abstract The circadian clock significantly impacts animal health and productivity, with light playing a crucial role in regulating circadian rhythms. However, the mechanisms behind light‐induced circadian transmission remain unclear, particularly in light‐sensitive avian species.

Peptic digestion of beef myofibrils is modified by prior marination
Background: Preparatory steps such as seasoning, marination, and cooking may induce changes in meat which affects the ability of the stomach to adequately digest it.
