Myonuclei and satellite cells in denervated rat muscles: An electron microscopy study

Microsurgery, 2006
AbstractThe study and description of a separated cell type have been dependent on the evolution of the electron microscope. There have been few experiments designed to induce changes in myonucleus and satellite‐cell populations in vivo without physically injuring muscle.

Ultrastructural detection of DNA fragmentation in myonuclei of fatal reducing body myopathy

Acta Neuropathologica, 2004
Muscle biopsy specimens of two patients with fatal reducing body myopathy showed few necrotic or regenerating fibers. On the other hand, enlarged densely stained myonuclei, in addition to the presence of many reducing bodies, were striking on light microscopy, and chromatin condensation was seen on electron microscopy.

Control of Myf5 activation in adult skeletal myonuclei requires ERK signalling

Cellular Signalling, 2007
Muscle regeneration in adults, especially after injury or wear, is a complex process that depends on satellite cells. These cells, which remain inactive under normal conditions, are activated in response to certain stimuli to regenerate damaged muscle tissue.

Displaced Myonuclei in Cachexia Suggest the Occurrence of Altered Innervation

2021
An idiopathic myopathy characterized by central nuclei in muscle fibers(Mazzotti, 2016), a hallmark of muscle regeneration, has been observed in cancer patients. In cancer cachexia skeletal muscle is incapable of regeneration (He, 2013), consequently, this observation remains unaccounted for.

An autoradiographic study of the role of satellite cells and myonuclei during myogenesis in vitro

Virchows Archiv B Cell Pathology Including Molecular Pathology, 1982
Satellite cells and myonuclei of neonatal rat muscles were differentially labeled with 3H-thymidine according to the procedure of Moss and Leblond (1971). Minced muscles fragments containing either labeled satellite cells or labeled myonuclei were cultured until multinucleated myotubes grew out from the explants.

Satellite cells and myonuclei in neonatally denervated rat muscle.

Italian journal of anatomy and embryology = Archivio italiano di anatomia ed embriologia, 2002
While it is well know that the percentage of stellite cells in relation to myonuclei rapidly decreases in aneurally regenerating adult muscle, the fate of satellite cells in neonatally denervated muscles has received little attention so far. In the present study, rat tibialis anterior muscles were denervated at birth and analysed after 5, 7 and 10 ...
