Alpha‐crystallin B chain (CRYAB) has been reported to stabilize mothers against decapentaplegic homolog 4 (SMAD4) in transforming growth factor‐β (TGF‐β) signaling, enabling target gene transcription. We show nuclear CRYAB–SMAD4 interaction for the first time in human skeletal muscle fibers and its regulation by exercise.

Overexpression of the double homeodomain protein DUX4c interferes with myofibrillogenesis and induces clustering of myonuclei [PDF]
Facioscapulohumeral muscular dystrophy (FSHD) is associated with DNA hypomethylation at the 4q35 D4Z4 repeat array. Both the causal gene DUX4 and its homolog DUX4c are induced. DUX4c is immunodetected in every myonucleus of proliferative cells, while DUX4 is present in only 1/1000 of myonuclei where it initiates a gene deregulation cascade.

Abstract Standard chemotherapy regimens for patients with breast cancer are based on epirubicin–cyclophosphamide (EC) and paclitaxel (TAX) administrations. While it has been shown that first EC administration impairs mitochondrial homeostasis, the isolated effects of TAX have not been studied without previous chemotherapy exposure.

Myonuclear Dynamics After Skeletal Muscle Surgical Injury
Using a recombination‐independent doxycycline inducible model of timed nonsatellite cell‐derived myonuclear labeling in adult skeletal muscle, we show that resident myonuclei move and become displaced within intact muscle fibers after muscle surgical injury.
