Diabetes alters the atrial transcriptome in atrial fibrillation, characterized by enhanced mitochondrial ATP synthesis, suppressed immune and inflammatory pathways, and distinct miRNA expression profiles, suggesting metabolic and epigenetic remodeling of the atrial substrate.
