Mitochondrial Calcium Oscillations in C2C12 Myotubes [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Biological Chemistry, 2001
Mitochondrial Ca(2+) concentration ([Ca(2+)](m)) was monitored in C2C12 skeletal muscle cells stably expressing the Ca(2+)-sensitive photoprotein aequorin targeted to mitochondria. In myotubes, KCl-induced depolarization caused a peak of 3.03 +/- 0.14 micrometer [Ca(2+)](m) followed by an oscillatory second phase (5.1 +/- 0.1 per min).

Effects of the Combination of β-Hydroxy-β-Methyl Butyrate and R(+) Lipoic Acid in a Cellular Model of Sarcopenia

open access: yesMolecules, 2020
Sarcopenia is a clinical problem associated with several pathological and non-pathological conditions. The aim of the present research is the evaluation of the pharmacological profile of the leucine metabolite β-hydroxy-β-methyl butyrate (HMB) associated

Muscle-powered Cantilever for Microtweezers with an Artificial Micro Skeleton and Rat Primary Myotubes

open access: yesJournal of Biomechanical Science and Engineering, 2010
A technique to attach muscle cells to artificial micro mechanical systems was studied using dog body hair and rat primary skeletal muscle. Muscle-powered cantilever for microtweezers were fabricated which consisted of a single strand of hair for the ...

Downstream events initiated by expression of FSHD-associated DUX4: Studies of nucleocytoplasmic transport, γH2AX accumulation, and Bax/Bak-dependence

open access: yesBiology Open, 2022
Abnormal expression in skeletal muscle of the double homeobox transcription factor DUX4 underlies pathogenesis in facioscapulohumeral muscular dystrophy (FSHD). Though multiple changes are known to be initiated by aberrant DUX4 expression, the downstream

During secondary myotube formation, primary myotubes preferentially absorb new nuclei at their ends [PDF]

open access: yesDevelopmental Dynamics, 1995
AbstractDeveloping muscles contain at least two types of myoblasts. Early myoblasts are the first myoblast to form and are the only myoblasts present during primary myotube formation. By the time secondary myotube formation begins, early myoblasts are rare and late myoblasts are common.

Extended 2D myotube culture recapitulates postnatal fibre type plasticity [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Background: The traditional problems of performing skeletal muscle cell cultures derived from mammalian or avian species are limited myotube differentiation, and transient myotube persistence which greatly restricts the ability of myotubes to undergo ...

Differentiation of Murine C2C12 Myoblasts Strongly Reduces the Effects of Myostatin on Intracellular Signaling

open access: yesBiomolecules, 2020
Alongside in vivo models, a simpler and more mechanistic approach is required to study the effects of myostatin on skeletal muscle because myostatin is an important negative regulator of muscle size.
