MicroRNAs in Sarcopenia: A Systematic Review

open access: yesFrontiers in Medicine, 2020
Sarcopenia, which is characterized by the loss of skeletal muscle, has been reported to contribute to development of physical disabilities, various illnesses, and increasing mortality. MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are small non-coding RNAs that inhibit translation

Topography‐Regulated Screening Platform for Myoblast Contact Guidance

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
This study develops a topography‐regulated screening platform (12 gradients in 96‐topography‐well plate) enabling analysis of skeletal muscle morphogenesis. The topography‐induced cell morphology changed, cell polarization, and myotube differentiation, establishing an evaluative framework for generating pathologically relevant myotube phenotypes to ...

Crosstalk among canonical Wnt and Hippo pathway members in skeletal muscle and at the neuromuscular junction

open access: yesNeural Regeneration Research
Skeletal muscles are essential for locomotion, posture, and metabolic regulation. To understand physiological processes, exercise adaptation, and muscle-related disorders, it is critical to understand the molecular pathways that underlie skeletal muscle ...

Additive‐Manufactured, Multifunctional Bioreactor Technology for Dynamic Culture of 3D Bioprinted Tissue Models

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
We introduce an additively manufactured bioreactor with a perfusion flow system and integrated temperature and pH sensors for skeletal muscle tissue biofabrication. The bioreactor's performance was evaluated by assessing the viability, spreading of the myoblast cells in a printed scaffold, and contraction of the isolated murine musculi interossei ...

Effects of AdipoRon administration on myotube diameter and number of nuclei per myotube of C2C12 cells with or without knockdown of adiponectin receptor (AdipoR).

open access: yes, 2018
Final concentration of AdipoRon was set at 0, 5, 10 and 20 μM in the differentiation medium. A: Effects of AdipoR knockdown on myotube diameter at 0 μM AdipoRon. B: Effects of AdipoRon on the relative myotube diameter with or without AdipoR knockdown. C:

Light‐Driven Quadrupedal Walking Biohybrid Robot With Antagonistic Muscle‐Rings and Inclined Joints

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
This work presents a light‐driven quadrupedal walking biohybrid robot powered by antagonistic muscle‐rings that achieve alternating walking gait. Optical training improved reproducibility of cultured muscle tissues, while caffeine treatment enhanced contractile force.

Myotube Assembly on Nanofibrous and Micropatterned Polymers

open access: yes, 2016
Skeletal muscle consists of parallel bundles of myotubes formed by the fusion of myoblasts. We fabricated nanofibrous and micropatterned polymers as cell culture substrates to guide the morphogenesis of muscular tissue.

Enhancing Maturation of Human Neuromuscular Organoids via Electrical Stimulation

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A framework for on‐demand and non‐invasive exposure of human neuromuscular organoids (NMOs) to electrical stimuli is established to promote their maturation. The robustness and effectiveness of different stimulation regimes are evaluated via thorough characterization of organoid tissue structure and contraction capacity. Chronic electrical stimulation,

Myotube-specific vulnerability to clozapine

open access: yesBiomedicine & Pharmacotherapy
Clozapine (CLZ), an atypical antipsychotic used in treatment-resistant schizophrenia, has a limited clinical application due to numerous serious adverse reactions. This study focused on myotoxicity, a rare and poorly understood side effect of the drug.

Multi‐Omics Insights Into the Mechanisms of Early Muscle Fiber Difference and Transformation Between Lean‐Type and Chinese Indigenous Pigs

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Multi‐omics analyses uncover breed‐specific cis‐regulatory landscapes and higher‐order chromatin architectural differences that underlie early postnatal muscle fiber divergence in pigs. A super‐enhancer upstream of PPP3CB recruits MEF2C to activate PPP3CB transcription, while the PPP3CB–MEF2C positive feedback loop promotes oxidative muscle fiber ...
