The sugar molecule N-glycolylneuraminic acid (Neu5Gc) is one of the most common sialic acids discovered in mammals. Cytidine monophospho-N-acetylneuraminic acid hydroxylase (CMAH) catalyses the conversion of N-acetylneuraminic acid (Neu5Ac) to Neu5Gc ...

Lipase-catalyzed acetylation of N-acetylneuraminic acid deiivative [PDF]
A facile preparation of triacetylated derivative of 2-phenylthioglycoside of N-acetylneuraminic acid (4) was achieved by treatment with lipase PS in vinyl acetate. The major product 4 has a free hydroxyl group at C-7. Results of time-course HPLC analysis indicate that the reactivity of the hydroxyl groups under this condition is in the following order;

Differentiating the structure of isobaric glycopeptides represents a major challenge for mass spectrometry-based characterisation techniques. Here we show that the regiochemistry of the most common N-acetylneuraminic acid linkages of N-glycans can be ...

An evolutionary molecular dynamics platform is used to design P1.6, a membrane‐active peptide that senses lipid packing defects in viral envelopes. P1.6 adopts a stabilized α‐helical structure upon membrane contact, disrupts virus‐like liposomes, and damages HIV‐1 particles.

Differential carbohydrate recognition by Campylobacter jejuni strain 11168: influences of temperature and growth conditions. [PDF]
The pathogenic clinical strain NCTC11168 was the first Campylobacter jejuni strain to be sequenced and has been a widely used laboratory model for studying C. jejuni pathogenesis. However, continuous passaging of C.

N-Acetylneuraminic Acid (NANA) in Measles Virus
The envelope glycoproteins and glycolipids of paramyxoviruses appear to be derived from the host cell plasma membrane during viral release (1, 2). Measles envelope glycoprotein spikes effect attachment of the virion to cell surfaces, thereby initiating either he-magglutination (HA) or infection (3,4).

This study integrates two decades of surveillance with genomic and structural analyses to decipher how spike protein glycosylation haplotypes drive avian coronavirus evolution. We uncover how specific glycosylation patterns associate with receptor‐binding affinity, shape global transmission dynamics, and correlate with clinical outcomes.
