Sialic Acid Mutarotation Is Catalyzed by the Escherichia coli β-Propeller Protein YjhT [PDF]
The acquisition of host-derived sialic acid is an important virulence factor for some bacterial pathogens, but in vivo this sugar acid is sequestered in sialoconjugates as the {alpha}-anomer.

The mucin-degradation strategy of Ruminococcus gnavus:The importance of intramolecular trans-sialidases [PDF]
We previously identified and characterized an intramolecular trans-sialidase (IT-sialidase) in the gut symbiont Ruminococcus gnavus ATCC 29149, which is associated to the ability of the strain to grow on mucins. In this work we have obtained and analyzed

Genetic Divergence and Antibody Expression Influence the N‐Glycomes of CHO‐K1 and CHO‐S Cells
ABSTRACT While Chinese hamster ovary (CHO) cells continue to be the workhorse of recombinant therapeutic protein production, decades of genetic divergence in the industrially relevant CHO‐K1 and CHO‐S cell lines, are likely to have resulted in differing glycosylation capabilities. Glycosylation can influence the efficacy, serum half‐life, and safety of

Molecular Characterization of a Novel N-Acetylneuraminate Lyase from a Deep-Sea Symbiotic Mycoplasma
N-acetylneuraminic acid (Neu5Ac) based novel pharmaceutical agents and diagnostic reagents are highly required in medical fields. However, N-acetylneuraminate lyase(NAL)for Neu5Ac synthesis is not applicable for industry due to its low catalytic ...

Sialic Acid (N-Acetylneuraminic Acid) in Human Serum
Abstract A simple spectrophotometric method is described for the sialic acids which utilizes the reaction with resorcinol and extraction with butyl acetate-n-butanol as a solvent. Normal values for adults, utilizing N-acetylneuraminic acid as a standard, were found to be 60 ± 10.4 mg./100 ml. Values for newborn babies averaged 40.4 ± 5.7.

Amphibian chytridiomycosis : a review with focus on fungus-host interactions [PDF]
Amphibian declines and extinctions are emblematic for the current sixth mass extinction event. Infectious drivers of these declines include the recently emerged fungal pathogens Batrachochytrium dendrobatidis and Batrachochytrium salamandrivorans ...

Beyond FimH: Diversity and Relevance of Carbohydrate‐Binding Fimbrial Proteins in Escherichia coli
This review discusses fimbrial lectins found in Escherichia coli (E. coli) other than FimH, which could be targeted to treat E. coli pathogenicity as an alternative to antibiotic treatment. Escherichia coli (E. coli) is responsible for multiple diseases in humans and animals.

The Nutritional Composition and Multi‐Omics Analysis of Raw Milk From Normande and Holstein Cows
Normande milk is characterized by high protein and fat content, whereas Holstein milk is distinguished by its high milk yield. However, few studies have reported on their compositional differences. Thus, we used physicochemical and multi‐omics techniques to investigate the compositional differences between Normande and Holstein raw milks. ABSTRACT Milk
