Photodynamic effects on choroidal neovascularization and physiological choroid.

open access: yesInvestigative ophthalmology & visual science, 2002
To evaluate the effect of photodynamic therapy (PDT) on perfusion and vascular integrity of choroidal neovascularization (CNV) and collateral physiological choroid. In a prospective clinical trial, patients with subfoveal CNV were treated with PDT and verteporfin.

Delivery of monocyte lineage cells in a biomimetic scaffold enhances tissue repair.

open access: yesJCI Insight, 2017
The monocyte lineage is essential to normal wound healing. Macrophage inhibition or knockout in mice results in impaired wound healing through reduced neovascularization, granulation tissue formation, and reepithelialization. Numerous studies have either

Hybrid Nanofibers for Multimodal Accelerated Wound Healing

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Fabrication of wound healing scaffolds based on biocompatible nanofibers. Nanofibers offering high surface area, flexibility, and biocompatibility significantly improved the healing outcome in vivo. Histological, immunological, and anti‐inflammatory markers are noticeably better in treated wounds.

Alterations of circulating endothelial cell and endothelial progenitor cell counts around the ovulation. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Context:Circulating endothelial cells (CECs) and progenitor cells (CEPs) have been intensively studied as a promising tool for treating ischemic diseases and monitoring cancer treatments, but how the menstrual cycle affects the variation in their counts ...

Intravitreal Anti-VEGF Drugs and Signals of Dementia and Parkinson-Like Events: Analysis of the VigiBase Database of Spontaneous Reports [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Introduction: Since vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) regulates several aspects of the central nervous system, particularly in dopaminergic neurons, VEGF inhibitors may be linked to Parkinson-like events and dementia, or variants of these ...

Gene therapy knockdown of VEGFR2 in retinal endothelial cells to treat retinopathy

open access: yesAngiogenesis, 2018
Inhibition of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) in retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) raises concerns for premature infants because VEGF is essential for retinovascular development as well as neuronal and glial health.

Tissue Hypoxia and Alterations in Microvascular Architecture Predict Glioblastoma Recurrence in Humans

open access: yesClinical Cancer Research, 2020
Purpose: Insufficient control of infiltrative glioblastoma (GBM) cells is a major cause of treatment failure and tumor recurrence. Hence, detailed insights into pathophysiologic changes that precede GBM recurrence are needed to develop more precise ...

Low‐Temperature Fabrication of Thymosin β4‐Loaded Soluble Microneedles to Promote Wound Healing by Specific Binding to Downregulated Immune Regulators Vsig4 and IL22rɑ2

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Schematic diagram depicting the fabrication and application of thymosin β4 (Tβ4)‐loaded microneedle patches for wound treatment. The Tβ4 was loaded into chitosan (CS) and sucrose MNs under mild conditions (4°C, 65% relative humidity). The Tβ4 MN patch specifically binds to the downregulated immune regulators Vsig4 and IL22rα2, thereby accelerating ...

3D‐Printed Titanium Implants with Bioactive Peptide‐Polysaccharide Scaffolds for Personalized Bone Reconstruction

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Porous 3D‐printed titanium implants are made bioactive by integration with a supramolecular peptide‐hyaluronic acid nanofibrillar scaffold, without the addition of exogenous cells or growth factors. Uniform filling of the implant architecture promotes vascularized, spatially homogeneous bone regeneration, significantly enhancing osteogenesis throughout

The influence of anisotropic growth and geometry on the stress of solid tumors [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Solid stresses can affect tumor patho-physiology in at least two ways: directly, by compressing cancer and stromal cells, and indirectly, by deforming blood and lymphatic vessels.
