Nested Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR)

Cold Spring Harbor Protocols, 2019
Nested polymerase chain reaction (PCR) is used in situations in which it is necessary to increase the sensitivity and/or specificity of PCR, for example, when amplifying a particular member of a polymorphic gene family or when amplifying a cDNA copy of an mRNA present at very low abundance in a clinical specimen containing a heterogeneous population of

Multiplex nested PCR for Brazilian Alphavirus diagnosis

Transactions of the Royal Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, 2004
A reverse-transcriptase PCR (RT-PCR) and a multiplex nested PCR were developed for the rapid detection and identification of 14 Brazilian alphaviruses. Using Alphavirus genus-specific primers in a RT-PCR, we obtained amplified products of 434 bp. Species-specific primers were selected and simultaneously tested in a multiplex nested PCR.
