Reciprocal control of viral infection and phosphoinositide dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Phosphoinositides, although scarce, regulate key cellular processes, including membrane dynamics and signaling. Viruses exploit these lipids to support their entry, replication, assembly, and egress. The central role of phosphoinositides in infection highlights phosphoinositide metabolism as a promising antiviral target.

Spin-Based Neuron Model with Domain Wall Magnets as Synapse

open access: yes, 2012
We present artificial neural network design using spin devices that achieves ultra low voltage operation, low power consumption, high speed, and high integration density.

Subthreshold dynamics of a single neuron from a Hamiltonian perspective [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
We use Hamilton's equations of classical mechanics to investigate the behavior of a cortical neuron on the approach to an action potential. We use a two-component dynamic model of a single neuron, due to Wilson, with added noise inputs.

Spatiotemporal and quantitative analyses of phosphoinositides – fluorescent probe—and mass spectrometry‐based approaches

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Fluorescent probes allow dynamic visualization of phosphoinositides in living cells (left), whereas mass spectrometry provides high‐sensitivity, isomer‐resolved quantitation (right). Their synergistic use captures complementary aspects of lipid signaling. This review illustrates how these approaches reveal the spatiotemporal regulation and quantitative

Detection of subthreshold pulses in neurons with channel noise

open access: yes, 2008
Neurons are subject to various kinds of noise. In addition to synaptic noise, the stochastic opening and closing of ion channels represents an intrinsic source of noise that affects the signal processing properties of the neuron.

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

Cortical potentiation induced by calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) in the insular cortex of adult mice

open access: yesMolecular Brain, 2020
Recent studies demonstrate that calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) plays critical roles in migraine. Immunohistochemistry and in situ hybridization studies have shown that CGRP and its receptors are expressed in cortical areas that are critical for ...

Chaotic neuron clock

open access: yes, 2011
A simple threshold model of neuron firing (with the neuron membrane electrochemical potential governed by the chaotic Rossler attractor) has been analyzed by mapping the generated irregular spiking time-series into telegraph signals.

Observability and Synchronization of Neuron Models [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Observability is the property that enables to distinguish two different locations in $n$-dimensional state space from a reduced number of measured variables, usually just one.

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...
