Electrochemical sensing of human neutrophil elastase and polymorphonuclear neutrophil activity [PDF]
Human neutrophil elastase (HNE) is a serine protease, produced by polymorphonuclear neutrophils (PMNs), whose uncontrolled production has been associated with various inflammatory disease states as well as tumour proliferation and metastasis. Here we report the development and characterisation of an electrochemical peptide-based biosensor, which ...

Objective Cardiovascular events are major determinants of morbidity and mortality in systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), particularly in patients with renal involvement. Although oxidative stress has been implicated in driving vascular and renal damage in SLE, the specific mechanisms remain unclear.

Introduction. Neutrophils play an important role in the innate immune response. While patrolling the body, they find pathogens and destroy them by means of phagocytosis, degranulation, or formation of neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs).

Nanomaterial‐based immune therapeutic strategies in neurodegenerative diseases
This review highlights the immunomodulatory potential of nanomaterials (NMs) in treating neurodegenerative diseases (NDs). It focuses on their roles in regulating innate and adaptive immune responses to maintain immune homeostasis. By providing insights into these mechanisms, the review lays the groundwork for innovative NMs therapeutic strategies to ...

Crystallization of human neutrophil elastase.
Human neutrophil elastase was inactivated by methoxysuccinyl-L-Ala-L-Ala-L-Pro-L-Ala-chloromethane. The modified enzyme was crystallized from 40 mM ammonium phosphate, pH 7.0 in the hexagonal space group P6(3) with unit cell parameters a = 74.53 A, b = 74.53 A, c = 70.88 A, alpha = beta = 90 degrees, gamma = 120 degrees.

Investigating the Ligand‐Binding Properties of N‐arylbenzimidazoles as Novel Elastase Inhibitors
A series of novel N‐[(3,5‐dimethylphenyl)methyl]‐1H‐benzimidazole derivatives is designed, synthesized, and evaluated for inhibitory activity against elastase. Several compounds demonstrate an antielastase activity, including the N‐(2‐bromophenyl)‐2‐(6‐chloro‐1‐(3,5‐dimethylbenzyl)‐1H‐benzo[d]imidazol‐2‐ylthio)acetamide, showing the greatest potency ...

Different behaviour of the N-terminal and C-terminal fragment of proatrial natriuretic factor in plasma of healthy subjects as well as of patients with cirrhosis [PDF]
N-terminal (atrial natriuretic factor (ANF) 1-98) and C-terminal (ANF 99-126) fragments of proatrial natriuretic factor (NTA and CTA, respectively) were determined in plasma of healthy subjects adopting different postures and in patients with cirrhosis ...
