NFATc1 is a tumor suppressor in hepatocellular carcinoma and induces tumor cell apoptosis by activating the FasL‐mediated extrinsic signaling pathway

open access: yesCancer Medicine, 2018
Nuclear factor of activated T cells (NFAT) is a family of transcription factors that have important functions in many tumors. However, the expression level and functional role of NFAT in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) remain unclear.

ThPOK Inhibits Osteoclast Formation Via NFATc1 Transcription and Function

open access: yesJBMR Plus, 2022
Both LRF (Zbtb7a) and ThPOK (Zbtb7b) belong to the POK (BTB/POZ and Kruppel) family of transcription repressors that participate in development, differentiation, and oncogenesis.

A Multifunctional β‐Defensin‐3 Mimetic Peptide Modulates Host–Biofilm Interactions and Reduces Bone Loss in Periodontitis

open access: yesJournal of Periodontal Research, EarlyView.
BDMP, a peptide that can penetrate cells and tissues, offering antimicrobial and anti‐inflammatory effects, has been identified as a potential new therapy for periodontitis. ABSTRACT Aim This study evaluated the potential of a beta‐defensin‐3 mimetic peptide (BDMP), a synthetic cell‐penetrating peptide with antimicrobial and immunomodulatory properties,

NFATc1 induction by an intronic enhancer restricts NKT γδ cell formation

open access: yesiScience, 2023
Summary: In thymus, the ablation of T cell receptor (TCR)-activated transcription factor NFATc1 or its inducible isoforms during the double-negative (DN) stages of thymocyte development leads to a marked increase in γδ thymocytes whereas the development ...

Combined Effects of Romosozumab and Zoledronate on the Development of Osteonecrosis of the Jaw

open access: yesOral Diseases, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective This study aimed to assess the occurrence of medication‐related osteonecrosis of the jaw (MRONJ) in mice following the sequential administration of romosozumab and zoledronate and to confirm their inhibitory effects on osteoclast differentiation in vitro.

NFATc1 Identifies a Population of Proximal Tubule Cell Progenitors [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of the American Society of Nephrology, 2009
Recovery from acute kidney injury requires regeneration of tubule cells. Because calcineurin induces nuclear transport of NFATc proteins, whose expression pattern correlates with the nephron segments injured by calcineurin inhibitors, we hypothesized that NFATc1 plays a role in modifying epithelial regeneration after injury.

NFATc1 facilitates hepatocellular carcinoma progression by regulating the senescence-associated secretory phenotype

open access: yesScientific Reports
The Nuclear Factor of Activated T-cells cytoplasmic 1 (NFATc1) is identified to be an oncogene in several human cancers. However, its specific role in HCC progression and the relevant mechanisms remain unclear.

Inflammation and mechanical force‐induced bone remodeling

open access: yesPeriodontology 2000, EarlyView.
Abstract Periodontitis arises from imbalanced host–microbe interactions, leading to dysbiosis and destructive inflammation. The host's innate and adaptive immune responses produce pro‐inflammatory mediators that stimulate destructive events, which cause loss of alveolar bone and connective tissue attachment.

NFATc1 self-promotes to build bone [PDF]

open access: yesThe Journal of Experimental Medicine, 2005
Self-promotion is the way to get ahead during bone development, according to Asagiri and colleagues. They show on page 1261 that the inducible transcription factor NFATc1 must turn on its own expression for bone-resorbing osteoclasts to form. Figure NFATc1-deficient mice (right) lack osteoclasts and thus have abnormally dense bones.

B cell development is critically dependent on NFATc1 activity [PDF]

open access: yesCellular & Molecular Immunology, 2018
B cell development in bone marrow is a precisely regulated complex process. Through successive stages of differentiation, which are regulated by a multitude of signaling pathways and an array of lineage-specific transcription factors, the common lymphoid progenitors ultimately give rise to mature B cells.
