Natural killer cells are important effector lymphocytes of the innate immune system, playing critical roles in antitumor and anti-infection host defense. Tumor progression or chronic infections, however, usually leads to exhaustion of NK cells, thus limiting the antitumor/infection potential of NK cells.

The mechanobiology of NK cells- ‘Forcing NK to Sense’ target cells
Natural killer (NK) cells are innate immune lymphocytes that recognize and kill cancer and infected cells, which makes them unique 'off-the-shelf' candidates for a new generation of immunotherapies. Biomechanical forces in homeostasis and pathophysiology accrue additional immune regulation for NK immune responses.

Natural Killer Cell-Based Immunotherapy for Cancer: Advances and Prospects
Natural killer (NK) cells are key innate immune cells that provide the first line of defense against viral infection and cancer. Although NK cells can discriminate between “self” and “non-self,” recognize abnormal cells, and eliminate transformed cells ...

Flow cytometry analysis of cytotoxic cells in patients with chronic hepatitis C
In patients with chronic hepatitis C study the content of different populations of cytotoxic lymphocytes by flow cytometry. There was a significant decrease in functional capacity of NK -cells in determining the expression of CD 107 a picture of the ...

My interest in uterine natural killer (NK) cells began in the early 1990s, when I and others described the striking accumulation of NK cells in the uterine mucosa during the establishment of the placenta. Whilst working as a reproductive pathologist, I had become intrigued by pre-eclampsia, a mysterious syndrome that only occurs in pregnant women.

Osteoclast-expanded super-charged NK-cells preferentially select and expand CD8+ T cells
Osteoclasts (OCs) and much less dendritic cells (DCs) induce significant expansion and functional activation of NK cells, and furthermore, the OC-expanded NK cells preferentially increase the expansion and activation of CD8+ T cells by targeting CD4+ T ...

NK cell inflammation in the clinical outcome of colorectal carcinoma
The ability of natural killer (NK) cells to provide protection against myeloid leukemia has been demonstrated in clinical settings. However, whether NK cells play a role in the clinical course of solid tumors is debated.

NK cell-based tumor immunotherapy
Natural killer (NK) cells display a unique inherent ability to identify and eliminate virus-infected cells and tumor cells. They are particularly powerful for elimination of hematological cancers, and have attracted considerable interests for therapy of ...

Natural killer (NK) cells eliminate a large variety of tumor cells and abnormal cells. However, NK cells in the tumor microenvironment (TME) are often functionally depleted. A few subsets of NK cells even promote tumor growth.
