Activation of the Non-canonical Inflammasome in Mouse and Human Cells
The non-canonical inflammasome is a signaling platform that allows for the detection of cytoplasmic lipopolysaccharides (LPS) in immune and non-immune cells. Upon detection of LPS, this inflammasome activates the signaling proteases caspase-4 and -5 (in humans) and caspase-11 (in mice).

Lipid-protein interactions regulating the canonical and the non-canonical NLRP3 inflammasome
The inflammatory response is a complex regulated effector mechanism of the innate immune system that is initiated after tissue injury or infection. The NLRP3 inflammasome is an important initiator of inflammation by regulating the activation of caspase-1, the maturation of pro-inflammatory cytokines and the induction of pyroptotic cell death.

Parabens disrupt non-canonical inflammasome activation
International Immunopharmacology, 2021Parabens are synthetic chemicals widely used as preservatives in cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, and foods. Although parabens, i.e., ethyl- and methyl-parabens, are considered relatively safe, study of possible health hazards has been undertaken due to the frequent exposure to parabens and their accumulation in the body.

Measuring Non-canonical Inflammasome Activation in Neutrophils
2022Neutrophils are innate immune cells that play critical functions during infections through diverse mechanisms. One such mechanism, the generation of extracellular traps (NETs), enables direct bacterial killing during infections. We recently reported that the activation of the non-canonical inflammasomes in neutrophils allows for the generation of NETs ...

Dual roles of the caspase-11 non-canonical inflammasome in inflammatory bowel disease
International Immunopharmacology, 2022Inflammation is a two-step process comprising the first priming step that prepares inflammatory responses and the second triggering step that activates inflammatory responses. The key feature of the triggering step is the activation of inflammasomes and intracellular inflammatory protein complexes that provide molecular platforms to activate ...

Non-canonical inflammasome activation targets caspase-11
Nature, 2011Caspase-1 activation by inflammasome scaffolds comprised of intracellular nucleotide-binding oligomerization domain (NOD)-like receptors (NLRs) and the adaptor ASC is believed to be essential for production of the pro-inflammatory cytokines interleukin (IL)-1β and IL-18 during the innate immune response.
