Acute effects of Hibiscus sabdariffa calyces on postprandial blood pressure, vascular function, blood lipids, biomarkers of insulin resistance and inflammation in humans [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
The acute impact of Hibiscus sabdariffa calyces (HSC) extract on postprandial vascular function and other cardiometabolic risk factors have not been studied previously. This study investigated the acute impact of HSC extract consumption on blood pressure

Pioglitazone increases non-esterified fatty acid clearance in upper body obesity [PDF]

open access: yesDiabetologia, 2005
Plasma NEFA concentrations are largely determined by adipose tissue lipolysis. Insulin suppression of lipolysis is commonly impaired with insulin resistance and improves with thiazolidinedione treatment of type 2 diabetes. The present studies were designed to assess the effects of thiazolidinedione on NEFA (oleate) metabolism that are independent of ...

Printed 2.5D‐Microstructures with Material‐Specific Functionalization for Tunable Biosensing

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
The 2.5D‐MiSENSE platform integrates a microstructured biosensor with an in‐line milking pipeline to enable real‐time detection of mastitis biomarkers during active milk flow. The system uses a 2.5D microengineered surface and patterned electrodes to enhance milk–sensor interaction.

BLOOD BIOMARKERS OF SHOW AND RACING EQUINE STALLIONS IN IRAQ: A COMPARATIVE STUDY

open access: yesThe Iraqi Journal of Agricultural science
A comparative study was conducted to detect blood metabolic biomarkers of show and racehorse stallions in Iraq. Five stallions were selected for each, and blood samples were collected via jugular venipuncture twice a time, fourteen days apart.

Uncoupling agent of oxidative phosphorylation from ascitic fluid of tumor bearing mice after X-irradiation [PDF]

open access: yes, 1964
It was investigated to clarify the relationship between the composition of the lipid fractions obtained from the ascitic fluid of Ehrlich ascites tumor bearing mice and its uncoupling activity after whole body irradiation (1,000 r). 1.

Acute effects of elevated NEFA on vascular function: a comparison of SFA and MUFA [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
There is emerging evidence to show that high levels of NEFA contribute to endothelial dysfunction and impaired insulin sensitivity. However, the impact of NEFA composition remains unclear.

Effect of Tolbutamide (Orinase) on Plasma Non-Esterified Fatty Acids

open access: yesExperimental Biology and Medicine, 1957
SummaryTolbutamide (Orinase), given intravenously to normal and diabetic patients caused a reduction of non-esterified fatty acid concentration only in those subjects who responded with hypoglycemia. Diabetics responding to tolbutamide with a prolonged depression of blood sugar showed a comparably sustained reduction of the fatty acid fraction.
