Role of non-HLA antibodies in organ transplantation
Current Opinion in Organ Transplantation, 2012Purpose of review Humoral responses beyond major histocompatibility antigens receive an increased attention of the transplantation community. We aimed to summarize the data on discovery of new antigenic targets, novel experimental findings, recent diagnostic developments, and introduction of new technologies in the field of non-

Non-HLA Antibodies and Their Role in Highly Sensitized Patients
Transplantation Proceedings, 2022The role of non-HLA antibody is gaining special attention in solid-organ transplantation and in highly sensitized (HS) patients because of its potential involvement in graft loss (GL) and/or antibody-mediated rejection (ABMR). The identification of non-HLA antibodies while listed may provide deeper information about the increased immunologic risk prior

Non-HLA-linked hemochromatosis in a Chinese woman
Digestive Diseases and Sciences, 1995A 55 year-old Chinese woman is described with severe iron overload similar in degree and distribution to that seen in hereditary hemochromatosis in the Caucasian population. Autopsy findings confirmed severe iron overload in the liver, pancreas, skin, heart, and endocrine organs. Hepatic iron concentration was 482 mumol/g with a hepatic iron index of 8.

Mechanisms and Role of HLA and non-HLA Alloantibodies
Clinical Journal of the American Society of Nephrology, 2006The role of alloantibodies against HLA and non-HLA targets is becoming increasingly recognized as critical in the pathogenesis of acute and chronic renal allograft outcomes. This review discusses the antigenic targets, the mechanisms of T and B cell activation that result in the production of antibody, the complement cascade, methods of antibody ...

Genetic susceptibility to common variable immunodeficiency (CVID) has been linked to the inheritance of part or all of 2 extended major histocompatibility complex haplotypes: HLA*B8*DR3(17) and HLA*B44*DR7.To determine whether the inheritance of these major histocompatibility complex susceptibility haplotypes correlates with absolute B-cell numbers.A ...

Transplantation, 1979
We studied three potential mechanisms that might account for the difficulty in detecting non-HLA antigenic disparities between HLA-identical siblings: (1) a low frequency of antigen-reactive cells; (2) the failure of antigen recognition to trigger proliferation or cytotoxicity; and (3) the development of suppressor cells or factors.

Non-HLA Transplantation Immunity Revealed by Lymphocytotoxic Antibodies
Lancet, The, 2005The presence of panel-reactive antibodies (PRA) against HLA antigens before transplantation is associated with early rejection of kidney grafts from cadaver donors. Transplants from HLA-identical sibling donors do not provide a target for antibodies to HLA antigens and should therefore not be affected by PRA.Data from the Collaborative Transplant Study

Non‐HLA genetics and predicting outcome in HSCT
International Journal of Immunogenetics, 2008SummaryOver the last 10 years, an increasing number of studies have demonstrated the role of non‐human leukocyte antigen (HLA) genes in predicting outcome in haematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT). These studies have included investigations into ‘single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs)’ or microsatellites of cytokines, cytokine receptor genes ...

Serological identification of a non‐HLA antigen in Oriental populations
European Journal of Immunogenetics, 2003SummaryIn a routine HLA antibody screening cross‐match test using the complement‐mediated lymphocytotoxicity (LCT) assay, we discovered an antibody, in a transfused Caucasian woman, recognizing an Oriental restricted antigen that does not appear to be associated with the human leukocyte antigen (HLA) system.

Cold non HLA lymphocyte cytotoxins in monoclonal gammopathies
Tissue Antigens, 1981Normal cold lymphocytotoxin frequency was found among 92 patients with asymptomatic or malignant monoclonal gammopathies, but, when detected, these antibodies were more potent in the patients than in the controls. Most of them reacted with T and B cells. In one case, the cytotoxicity was clearly directed only against chronic lymphoid leukemia B cells.
