Ethnicity : UK colorectal cancer screening pilot : final report [PDF]

open access: yes
27. In summary, the overall evaluation of the UK Pilot has demonstrated that key parameters of test and programme performance observed in randomised studies of FOBt screening can be repeated in population-based pilot programmes.

Hyperosmotic stress induces PARP1‐mediated HPF1‐dependent mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Sorbitol‐induced hyperosmotic stress rapidly induces reversible mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation (MARylation) on PARP1 without the signs of genotoxic signaling. We show that PARP1 autoMARylation is HPF1 dependent and forms hydroxylamine‐resistant O‐glycosidic linkages.

Investigating the potential for expediting diagnosis of ovarian cancer via prompt symptom recognition & "targeted screening"

open access: yes, 2009
PhDThis thesis explores the potential for using symptoms as a tool to bring forward the diagnosis of ovarian cancer. Current evidence supports the existence of prediagnostic symptoms, however symptom lead time has yet to be adequately quantified ...

Impact of a national HPV vaccination programme for preadolescent girls on cytology screening performance and CIN2+ incidence: five-year population-based cervical screening results from SloveniaResearch in context

open access: yesThe Lancet Regional Health. Europe
Summary: Background: HPV vaccination is most efficacious in preventing cervical cancer and its precursors when administered during preadolescence. Because in Slovenia women are invited for cytology screening from age 20, women targeted for preadolescent

Linking neurogenesis, oligodendrogenesis, and myelination defects to neurodevelopmental disruption in primary mitochondrial disorders

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Mitochondrial remodeling shapes neural and glial lineage progression by matching metabolic supply with demand. Elevated OXPHOS supports differentiation and myelin formation, while myelin compaction lowers mitochondrial dependence, revealing mitochondria as key drivers of developmental energy adaptation.

An isoform of 14‐3‐3 protein regulates transbilayer lipid movement at the plasma membrane

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Loss of 14‐3‐3ζ in CHO cells confers resistance to exogenous phosphatidylserine (PS) and impairs endocytosis‐independent inward flip‐flop of fluorescent PS at the plasma membrane. RNAi‐mediated knockdown reproduces this defect, while no additive effect is seen in ATP11C‐deficient cells.

Target Determination of Volatile Fluoroalkyl Pollutants and Non-Target Screening for Environmental Monitoring

open access: yesTalanta
Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) are persistent environmental contaminants known for their toxicity, mobility, and bioaccumulation. Efficient sample preparation and analysis of these compounds are critical for environmental monitoring. In this study, a novel analytical methodology is presented, integrating dynamic headspace extraction (DHS ...

The ubiquitin ligase RNF115 is required for the clearance of damaged lysosomes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Upon lysosomal rupture, an E3 ubiquitin ligase RNF115 translocates from the cytosol to the damaged lysosomal membrane. Moreover, RNF115 depletion impairs the clearance of damaged lysosomes, identifying it as a key regulator of lysosomal quality control.
