Separation and detection of volatile and non-volatile N-nitrosamines
The Analyst, 1970The detection of small concentrations of N-nitrosamines in biological materials requires their prior selective extraction and concentration. A procedure is described for the separation of both volatile and non-volatile N-nitrosamines as a class, and their subsequent determination at low levels.

The Estimation of Total Non-Volatile Nitrosamines and Nitrosamides in Microgram Amounts
Analytical Letters, 1973Abstract Nitrosamines and nitrosamides are denitrosated by thionyl chloride to form nitrosyl chloride, which can be volatilized in a stream of nitrogen, trapped in alkali and determined as inorganic nitrite. Other compounds containing a N-O bond such as nitramines and nitramides do not react similarly under the conditions used.

Abstract An HPLC method has been developed for the determination of nitrosamines. Five nitrosamines were separated simultaneously on a 250 mm×4.6 mm i.d. Phenomenex Luna CN (particle size 5 µm) column with methanol‐1.0 m M K2HPO4 (pH 4.0) solvent, programmed as mobile phase and with a photodiode array detector.

Liquid chromatographic determination of non-volatile nitrosamines by post-column redox reactions and voltammetric detection at solid electrodes. Behaviour of the Ce(IV)-Ce(III) couple at gold, platinum and glassy carbon electrodes and suitability of the Ce(IV) reagent [PDF]
Abstract The suitability of Ce(IV) in acidic medium as post-column reagent in the liquid chromatographic (LC) amperometric determination of non-volatile nitrosamines was investigated by studying the Ce(IV)-Ce(III) couple with a rotating disk electrode, whose behavior approaches the operational conditions of a “channel-thin-layer” cell with solid ...

Optimization of the amperometric detection of nitrite by reaction with iodide in a post-column reactor for liquid chromatography of non-volatile nitrosamines. [PDF]
Abstract Following previous studies on this subject, the use of iodide reagent in acidic medium for the liquid chromatographic amperometric determination of non-volatile nitrosamines has been investigated in a two-line flow-injection manifold coupled with a voltammetric flow-through detector.

Determination of a non-volatile N-nitrosamine on a food matrix
The Analyst, 1978A method devised for the determination of N-nitrososarcosine, in which the N-nitrosamine in solution is denitrosated with hydrogen bromide to form volatile products that are rapidly removed and determined in a chemiluminescence analyser, has been applied successfully to the same compound on powdered corn flakes.

Assay of suntan lotions for the carcinogenic, non-volatile N-nitrosamine N-nitrosodiethanolamine
Cancer Letters, 1990N-nitrosodiethanolamine (NDELA) is a carcinogenic, non-volatile nitrosamine that has been shown to pass readily through the skin of animals and humans. It has often been found as a contaminant in cosmetics. Twenty different suntan lotions, available in Israel, both liquids and creams, were analyzed for NDELA content.

Abstract A gas chromatographic-mass spectrometric procedure based on characteristic-ion monitoring is described for the separation and detection of trace amounts of some non-volatile nitrosamines. A silver-frit interface and a modified spectrometer-inlet system used to transfer material from the gas chromatograph to the mass spectrometer are ...

Analysis of non-volatile nitrosamines by moving belt liquid chromatography/mass spectrometry
Biological Mass Spectrometry, 1985Non-volatile nitrosamines exemplified by nitroso amino acids, -dipeptides, -oxazolidines and -thiazolidines have been analysed by moving belt liquid chromatography/mass spectrometry (LC/MS) and spectra obtained by ammonia chemical ionization. Optimal conditions such as source temperature, source pressure and belt vaporizer temperature have been ...
