Interaction of Hepatitis C Virus Nonstructural Protein 5A with Core Protein Is Critical for the Production of Infectious Virus Particles [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Virology, 2008
ABSTRACTNonstructural protein 5A (NS5A) of the hepatitis C virus (HCV) possesses multiple and diverse functions in RNA replication, interferon resistance, and viral pathogenesis. Recent studies suggest that NS5A is involved in the assembly and maturation of infectious viral particles; however, precisely how NS5A participates in virus production has not

The evolving role of structural biology in pharma: integration of X‐ray crystallography, cryo‐electron microscopy and beyond

open access: yesActa Crystallographica Section D, Volume 82, Issue 6, Page 587-602, June 2026.
This review describes how an integrated structural biology platform at Merck Sharp & Dohme LLC, Rahway, New Jersey, USA, combining X‐ray crystallography, cryo‐EM, MicroED and cryo‐ET, enables seamless three‐dimensional insights from molecular to cellular length scales.

Efficient Rescue of Hepatitis C Virus RNA Replication bytrans-Complementation with Nonstructural Protein 5A [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Virology, 2005
ABSTRACTStudies ofHepatitis C virus(HCV) RNA replication have become possible with the development of subgenomic replicons. This system allows the functional analysis of the essential components of the viral replication complex, which so far are poorly defined.

Geographic Distribution of HCV-GT3 Subtypes and Naturally Occurring Resistance Associated Substitutions

open access: yesViruses, 2019
Background: Little is known about the frequency or geographic distributions of naturally occurring resistance-associated substitutions (RASs) in the nonstructural protein 5A (NS5A) domain of hepatitis-C virus (HCV) genotype-3 (GT-3) different subtypes ...

Expanding the Deceased Donor Pool in Manitoba Using Hepatitis C-Viremic Donors: Program Report

open access: yesCanadian Journal of Kidney Health and Disease, 2021
Purpose of program: The ongoing shortage of organs for transplant combined with Manitoba having the highest prevalence of end-stage renal disease (ESRD) in Canada has resulted in long wait times on the deceased donor waitlist.

Ligand‐Based Pharmacophore Modeling and Structure‐Based Virtual Screening for Identifying Potential Therapeutic Agents Targeting the SARS‐CoV‐2 Spike Protein‐ACE2 Receptor Interaction

open access: yesChemMedChem, Volume 21, Issue 10, 27 May 2026.
A protocol guided by ligand‐based pharmacophore modeling and structure‐based virtual screening enabled the identification of 1H‐pyrazol‐5‐ol derivatives as novel inhibitors of the SARS‐CoV‐2 spike protein. The lead inhibitors, C‐3 and C‐4, could serve as templates for the design of potent antiviral agents targeting viral entry into host cells ...

Nonstructural protein 5A does not contribute to the resistance of hepatitis C virus replication to interferon alpha in cell culture

open access: yes, 2005
The hepatitis C virus (HCV) subgenomic replicon system was used to study a possible involvement of nonstructural protein 5A (NS5A) in the mechanisms of HCV resistance to interferon alpha (IFN-α). A series of chimeric HCV replicons was constructed.

Recent Increase in Rotavirus Gastroenteritis After Five Years of Low Activity in Hokkaido Prefecture, Japan, Associated With Equine‐Like G3P[8] and G8P[8] Strains, 2025

open access: yesJournal of Medical Virology, Volume 98, Issue 5, May 2026.
ABSTRACT Rotavirus gastroenteritis decreased substantially worldwide during the COVID‐19 pandemic, and activity remained minimal in Hokkaido Prefecture, Japan, for 5 years after 2020. Hospital‐based surveillance in Hokkaido since July 2019 identified the first resurgence of rotavirus gastroenteritis in 2025.

Towards understanding of the replication and pathogenesis of dengue infection [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Dengue is the most important human viral disease transmitted by arthropod vectors and over half of the world's population live in areas at risk of infection. Currently there is neither specific treatment nor vaccine to tackle this emerging disease. The

Fungal Pathogen Activity and Stress‐Dependent Responses of Grapevine Wood to Esca and Drought

open access: yesPhysiologia Plantarum, Volume 178, Issue 3, May/June 2026.
ABSTRACT Biotic and abiotic stresses alter the physiology of perennial plants, with consequences for fungal endophytes and disease expression. In grapevine, drought inhibits esca disease expression, but the underlying molecular interactions between the plant and fungi are unknown. We combined wood metatranscriptomics, metabolomics, and metabarcoding to
