Sex and the noradrenergic system
2020The central noradrenergic system comprises multiple brainstem nuclei whose cells synthesize and release the catecholamine transmitter norepinephrine (NE). The largest of these nuclei is the pontine locus coeruleus (LC), which innervates the vast majority of the forebrain.

Noradrenergic Function in Suicide
Archives of Suicide Research, 2007Although abnormalities in serotonergic function have been the major focus of studies on suicidal behavior, several studies indicate that abnormalities of noradrenergic function may also be involved in the pathophysiology of suicide. In this paper, we have reviewed some of the noradrenergic studies in suicide, including studies of the biosynthetic ...

Noradrenergic influences on catalepsy
Psychopharmacology, 1978Widespread depletion of forebrain noradrenaline, produced by the intracerebral injection of 4 microgram of 6-hydroxydopamine into the fibres of the dorsal noradrenergic bundle, potentiated the catalepsy induced by 20 mg/kg of morphine and severely attenuated the catalepsy induced by two separate cholinergic agonists, arecoline and pilocarpine.

Noradrenergic Function in Schizophrenia
Archives of General Psychiatry, 1987Yohimbine, an alpha 2-adrenergic receptor antagonist that increases noradrenergic function, was administered to 16 healthy subjects and 18 drug-free schizophrenic patients with (n = 10) and without (n = 8) tardive dyskinesia (TD). Outcome measures of this double-blind, placebo-controlled study included changes in behavior, plasma 3-methoxy-4-hydroxy ...

Noradrenergic modulation of lymphohematopoiesis
International Journal of Immunopharmacology, 1994Adrenergic agents can affect hematopoiesis after syngeneic bone marrow transplantation (BMT) in mice. In particular, chemical sympathectomy by 6-hydroxydopamine and/or administration of various doses of the alpha 1-adrenergic antagonist prazosin were shown to increase the concentration of blood granulocytes, platelets and bone marrow granulocyte ...
