The stability of the Arabidopsis transcriptome in transgenic plants expressing the marker genes nptII and uidA [PDF]

open access: yesThe Plant Journal, 2005
Summary The ATH1 Arabidopsis GeneChip from Affymetrix was used to search for transcriptome changes in Arabidopsis associated with the strong expression of transgenes regulated by constitutive promoters. The insertion and expression of the commonly used marker genes, uidA and

Cloning of the nptII gene of Escherichia coli and construction of a recombinant strain harboring functional recA and nptII antibiotic resistance

open access: yesGenetics and Molecular Research, 2011
In an attempt to clone the ORF of the nptII gene of Escherichia coli K12 (ATCC 10798), two degenerate primers were designed based on the nptII sequence of its Tn5 transposon. The nptII ORF was placed under the control of the E. coli hybrid trc promoter, in the pKK388-1 vector, transformed into E.

Transgenic selection and underlying mechanisms in apicomplexan parasites

open access: yesThe FEBS Journal, EarlyView.
Transgenic selection markers have driven genetic engineering in apicomplexans, enabling precise, iterative experiments. This review discusses mechanistic details of drug selection markers, strategies for marker recycling, and practical considerations for several clinically relevant parasites.

Agrobacterium tumefaciens-mediated transformation of Jatropha curcas L. with a polyhydroxyalkanoate gene (phaC)

open access: yesIndonesian Journal of Biotechnology, 2018
Polyhydroxybutyrate is a component of bioplastics that is synthesized under the control of enzymes encoded by pha multigenes. The genes are naturally present in Ralstonia eutropha. However, the production of bioplastics in bacteria is inefficient because

Gene Editing of Nicotiana benthamiana Architecture for Space‐Efficient Production of Recombinant Proteins in Closed Environments

open access: yesPlant Biotechnology Journal, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Indoor vertical farming (VF) offers practical advantages for the cultivation of plant protein bio‐factories including plant uniformity, product consistency, water/nutrient recycling and production cycles on a year‐round basis. Much progress has been achieved toward the development of innovative systems for artificial lighting, automated ...

Unexpected Suppression of Tomato Fruit Cuticle Formation by Overexpression of a Key Cutin Biosynthetic Enzyme

open access: yesPlant Biotechnology Journal, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Fruit cuticles regulate the diffusion of water, gases and solutes, functioning as essential protective interfaces against environmental and biotic stresses. Engineering cuticle structure and mechanics therefore represents a promising strategy for improving fruit quality and resilience.

A downstream box fusion allows stable accumulation of a bacterial cellulase in Chlamydomonas reinhardtii chloroplasts

open access: yesBiotechnology for Biofuels, 2018
Background We investigated strategies to improve foreign protein accumulation in the chloroplasts of the model algae Chlamydomonas reinhardtii and tested the outcome in both standard culture conditions as well as one pertinent to algal biofuel production.

NbRD21 protease controls receptor kinase homeostasis in Nicotiana benthamiana

open access: yesNew Phytologist, Volume 251, Issue 5, Page 2741-2752, September 2026.
Proteomic analysis revealed that receptor kinases (red) accumulate higher in rd21 knockout Nicotiana benthamiana plants. Summary RD21‐like proteases are papain‐like cysteine proteases with a C‐terminal granulin domain that are abundant and ubiquitous in angiosperms and have often been implicated in immunity.

Most of the Specific Genomic Regions of Agrobacterium fabrum Shape Phenolics Content of Medicago truncatula Roots

open access: yesEnvironmental Microbiology Reports, Volume 18, Issue 4, August 2026.
Agrobacterium fabrum harbour seven specific‐gene regions, whose annotation indicates a close connection with plant. To evaluate their involvement in plant‐bacteria interaction, deletion mutant strains of each specific region were inoculated onto Medicago truncatula roots. Root phenolics content was influenced by them.
