An improved nucleic acid amplification test (NAAT) to detect Chlamydia trachomatis infections, based on PCR amplification within its cryptic plasmid (CT1/CT2 Test) was developed. DNA was extracted from urogenital swabs and a 594-bp long DNA fragment from the cryptic plasmid (pCT) was amplified.

Isothermal Amplification Techniques for the Detection of Nucleic Acids and Proteins
2020The early detection of disease is beneficial for improved patient prognoses. One major challenge in early disease detection is the small, undetectable amounts of biomarkers. Detection strategies that confer amplification of the biomarker itself or of the detection signal are therefore desirable. Furthermore, emerging strategies conferring amplification

Broad-Spectrum Molecular Detection of Fungal Nucleic Acids by PCR-Based Amplification Techniques
2016Over the past decade, the incidence of life-threatening invasive fungal infections has dramatically increased. Infections caused by hitherto rare and emerging fungal pathogens are associated with significant morbidity and mortality among immunocompromised patients.

Nucleic acid amplification and related techniques in microbiological diagnostics and epidemiology.
Cellular and molecular biology (Noisy-le-Grand, France), 1995The use of nucleic acid amplification techniques within the medical microbiology laboratory is becoming more and more accepted. Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) tests or nucleic acid sequence based amplification (NASBA) assays are already available in the form of commercial kits.
