An efficient algorithm for nucleolus and prekernel computation in some classes of TU-games [PDF]
We consider classes of TU-games. We show that we can efficiently compute an allocation in the intersection of the prekernel and the least core of the game if we can efficiently compute the minimum excess for any given allocation.

The nucleolus functions as the compartment for histone H2B protein degradation
Summary: Histones are main components of chromatin, and the protein levels of histones significantly affect chromatin assembly. However, how histone protein levels are regulated, especially whether and how histones are degraded, is largely unclear. Here,

The F-actin filament capping protein CapG is a bona fide nucleolar protein [PDF]
Actin works in concert with myosin I to regulate the transcription of ribosomal genes in the nucleolus. Recently, nucleolar actin has been shown to be active in its polymeric form raising the question how actin dynamics is regulated in the nucleolus ...

Studies on the relation between heme and nucleic acid syntheses in erythroid cell. 3. Nucleolus of erythroblast, changes in relation with cell specialization [PDF]
The disappearance of nucleolus has been traced in the rat erythroid cells in relation with the cell specialization under varying conditions, i. e. in anemia with or without treatment by bromouracil and aminopterin.

When cells are observed by phase contrast microscopy, nucleoli are among the most conspicuous structures. The nucleolus was formally described between 1835 and 1839, but it was another century before it was discovered to be associated with a specific chromosomal locus, thus defining it as a cytogenetic entity. Nucleoli were first isolated in the 1950s,

Nucleolar Organization and Functions in Health and Disease
The nucleolus is a prominent, membraneless compartment found within the nucleus of eukaryotic cells. It forms around ribosomal RNA (rRNA) genes, where it coordinates the transcription, processing, and packaging of rRNA to produce ribosomal subunits ...

The nucleolus has emerged as a central hub for nuclear functions in eukaryotes. Studies in mammals and the model yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae showed that the nucleolus is pivotal to nuclear functions other than ribosome biogenesis.

In all eukaryotic cells, the nucleolus is functionally and structurally linked to rRNA synthesis and ribosome biogenesis. This compartment contains as well factors involved in other cellular activities, but the functional interconnection between non ...

The nucleolus as site of ribosome biogenesis holds a pivotal role in cell metabolism. It is composed of ribosomal DNA (rDNA), which is present as tandem arrays located in nucleolus organizer regions (NORs). In interphase cells, rDNA can be found inside and adjacent to nucleoli and the location is indicative for transcriptional activity of ribosomal ...
