Nicotinic Receptors in the Medial Habenula to Interpeduncular Nucleus Pathway: Modulators of Reward, Aversion and Emotion. [PDF]
ABSTRACT The medial habenula–interpeduncular nucleus pathway is a highly conserved and densely innervated brain circuit known for its unique cholinergic transmission and exceptional expression of nicotinic acetylcholine receptors. This pathway plays a critical role in regulating motivational and emotional processes, particularly those related to ...

Efferent projections of Nps-expressing neurons in the parabrachial region. [PDF]
We mapped the efferent projections of neuropeptide S (NPS) neurons in the parabrachial nucleus and peri‐locus coeruleus using a genetic approach combined with a neural network algorithm (BoutonNet). NPS neurons project via a periventricular and ventral pathway and target the paraventricular nucleus of the thalamus, bed nucleus of the stria terminalis ...

Brainwide Projections of Mouse Dopaminergic Zona Incerta Neurons. [PDF]
Cre‐dependent viral tracing from medial dopaminergic ZI neurons revealed abundant fiber projections rostrocaudally throughout the brain. Interestingly, the midbrain motor regions, including the periaqueductal gray area and superior colliculus, contained the densest accumulation of fiber projections, and this fiber density was independent of the region ...

Contribution of hypothalamic orexin (hypocretin) circuits to pathologies of motivation. [PDF]
Abstract The orexin (also known as hypocretin) system, consisting of neuropeptides orexin‐A and orexin‐B, was discovered over 25 years ago and was immediately identified as a central regulator of sleep and wakefulness. These peptides interact with two G‐protein coupled receptors, orexin 1 (OX1) and orexin 2 (OX2) receptors which are capable of coupling

History of key regulatory peptide systems and perspectives for future research
The history of the International Regulatory Peptide Society and RegPep symposia reflects the evolution of regulatory peptide discovery since 1902, which is exemplified by scientific works of Viktor Mutt, Wylie W. Vale Jr and Rolf Håkanson and research on corticotropin‐releasing factor (CRF), enterochromaffin‐like (ECL) cells, cholecystokinin (CCK ...

Trans-Synaptic Virus Tracing Reveals Reciprocal Connections of the Interpeduncular Nucleus With the Mood, Exteroceptive, Interoceptive, and Motor Control Systems. [PDF]
The interpeduncular nucleus (IPN) in zebrafish plays a pivotal role in directional decision‐making, social conflict, and fear responses. The anterograde and retrograde connections of the dorsal and intermediate IPN are revealed through the use of monosynaptic and trans‐synaptic viral tracers.

The Concise Guide to PHARMACOLOGY 2023/24: G protein-coupled receptors
The Concise Guide to PHARMACOLOGY 2023/24 is the sixth in this series of biennial publications. The Concise Guide provides concise overviews, mostly in tabular format, of the key properties of approximately 1800 drug targets, and about 6000 interactions with about 3900 ligands.

Macroscale connections of the mouse lateral preoptic area and anterior lateral hypothalamic area
Prominent multilevel lateral preoptic area (LPO) and lateral hypothalamic area anterior region (LHAa) functional associations. Three nested tiers of functional grouping are represented (gray shaded tiles), and for each is listed functional grouping‐related gray matter regions with prominent connections to LPO and LHAa; outputs and inputs are indicated ...

Relaxin family peptide receptor 3 (RXFP3) expressing cells in the zona incerta/lateral hypothalamus augment behavioural arousal. [PDF]
Relaxin family peptide receptor 3 (RXFP3) is an inhibitory G‐protein coupled receptor expressed widely throughout the mammalian brain. We show that RXFP3‐expressing cells in the mouse zona incerta and lateral hypothalamus (LH/ZIRXFP3) send efferent projections to fear and arousal‐implicated nuclei.
