Nuclear receptors and differentiation of oligodendrocyte precursor cells

2021
Oligodendrocytes are the cells responsible for myelin formation during development and in adulthood, both for normal myelin turnover and myelin repair. These highly specialized cells derive from the oligodendrocyte precursor cells (OPCs), through a complex differentiation process involving genetic and epigenetic regulation mechanisms, which switch the ...

Class 3 semaphorins influence oligodendrocyte precursor recruitment and remyelination in adult central nervous system.

open access: yesBrain, 2011
Oligodendrocyte precursor cells, which persist in the adult central nervous system, are the main source of central nervous system remyelinating cells. In multiple sclerosis, some demyelinated plaques exhibit an oligodendroglial depopulation, raising the ...

A role of Sema6A expressed in oligodendrocyte precursor cells

Neuroscience Letters, 2013
Our previous study has confirmed that the distribution of oligodendrocyte precursor cells (OPCs) is disturbed in the embryonic cerebral cortex of Plexin-A4 knockout mice, and that Sema6A is expressed in OPCs in the region. The present study examined whether Sema6A expressed in OPCs is involved in their own migration, and used a clonal FBD-102b line as ...

MARCKS is Necessary for Oligodendrocyte Precursor Cell Maturation

Neurochemical Research, 2017
Oligodendrocyte precursor cell (OPC) development into myelinated oligodendrocytes demands vigorous membrane addition. Since myristoylated alanine-rich C-kinase substrate (MARCKS) reportedly contributes to Ras-associated protein (Rab)-10-associated vesicle insertion into neuronal membranes, we investigated the role of MARCKS in OPC maturation.

Precursor cells of oligodendrocytes in rat primary cultures

Developmental Biology, 1985
In monolayer primary cultures of brain from newborn rats, which contain astrocytes and oligodendrocytes, a new morphological cell type (flat black cells) was observed. Microphotographs of different areas of the monolayer, taken every 30 min, showed that these flat black cells can divide and that they undergo morphological transformation in vitro.

New mouse oligodendrocyte precursor (mOP) cells for studies on oligodendrocyte maturation and function

Journal of Neuroscience Methods, 2006
Oligodendrocyte precursor (OP) cells give rise to mature oligodendrocytes (OL), which are necessary for myelination of axons during CNS development and following damage to the myelin sheath that occurs in demyelinating diseases. To facilitate studies designed to understand OP maturation and OL function, we have developed OP cells that can be grown ...

Pathological potential of oligodendrocyte precursor cells

Trends in neurosciences, 2023
Adult oligodendrocyte precursor cells (aOPCs), transformed from fetal OPCs, are idiosyncratic neuroglia of the central nervous system (CNS) that are distinct in many ways from other glial cells. OPCs have been classically studied in the context of their remyelinating capacity.

Attenuation of proliferation in oligodendrocyte precursor cells by activated microglia

Journal of Neuroscience Research, 2010
AbstractActivated microglia can influence the survival of neural cells through the release of cytotoxic factors. Here, we investigated the interaction between Toll‐like receptor 4 (TLR4)‐activated microglia and oligodendrocytes or their precursor cells (OPC).

Mechanisms of oligodendrocyte precursor cell differentiation

2011
Oligodendrocytes are the myelin-producing cells in the central nervous system (CNS) and constitute the pendant to the myelinating Schwann cells in the peripheral nervous system (PNS). Whilst myelin formation for axonal insulation to ensure rapid impulse propagation, oligodendrocytes have gained a prominent role in the maintenance of axonal integrity ...
