Modes of handling Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity (ORAC) data and reporting values in product labelling

open access: yes, 2010
Antioxidant measurement assays are widely used and should be chosen based on their being fit for purpose. Likewise, the mode of reporting antioxidant measurements should also be fit for purpose.

Interlaboratory Study of Hydrophilic-Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity, a Method for Measuring Antioxidant Capacity

open access: yesNippon Shokuhin Kagaku Kogaku Kaishi, 2010

Electron transfer between complexes III and IV in S. cerevisiae mitochondrial membranes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Mitochondrial oxidative phosphorylation in S. cerevisiae mitoplasts is limited by complex IV catalytic capacity, rather than two‐dimensional cytochrome c diffusion. At physiological cytochrome c : supercomplex ratios at salinity equivalent to that of 20 mm monovalent salt, activity is maximized, indicating that this low ionic strength accurately mimics

Antioxidant methods: ORAC assay (Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity) : bachelor thesis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Kako

Use of the Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity (ORAC) Assay to Predict the Capacity of Mango (Mangifera indica L.) By-Products to Inhibit Meat Protein Oxidation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
The potential activity of mango by-products to inhibit the peroxyl radical-mediated oxidation of tryptophan residues (Trp) of myofibrillar proteins (MP) was studied.

Antioxidant and Anti-Osteoporosis Activities of Chemical Constituents of the Stems of Zanthoxylum piperitum

open access: yesMolecules, 2018
Two new lignans, zanthoxyloside C (1) and zanthoxyloside D (2), together with nine known compounds comprising lignans (3–5), flavonoids (6–8), and phenolics (9–11), were isolated from the methanol extract of the stems of Zanthoxylum piperitum.

The additive properties of Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity (ORAC) assay: The case of essential oils

open access: yesFood Chemistry, 2014
The ORAC assay is applied to measure the antioxidant capacity of foods or dietary supplements. Sometimes, the manufacturers claim antioxidant capacities that may not correspond to the constituents of the product. These statements are sheltered by the general understanding that antioxidants might exhibit synergistic properties, but this is not ...

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

A novel quinazolinone insulin receptor inhibitor and its synergy with an EGFR inhibitor in glucose‐driven glioblastoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The novel styrylquinazolinone‐based molecule W1B effectively suppresses glioblastoma by inhibiting IGF1R and EGFR. In high‐glucose microenvironments driving tumor resistance, W1B acts synergistically with the EGFR inhibitor dacomitinib. This combination safely blocks compensatory survival signaling in zebrafish xenograft models. Showcasing promising in
