Computationally accelerated identification of P-glycoprotein inhibitors [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE
Overexpression of the polyspecific efflux transporter, P-glycoprotein (P-gp, MDR1, ABCB1), is a major mechanism by which cancer cells acquire multidrug resistance (MDR), the resistance to diverse chemotherapeutic drugs.

Glucosamine activates intestinal P-glycoprotein inhibiting drug absorption [PDF]

open access: yesNature Communications
P-glycoprotein (P-gp) is a crucial drug efflux transporter in the gastrointestinal tract, reducing drug uptake and expelling harmful xenobiotics to prevent pathological changes.

Two new jatrophane diterpenes from the roots of Euphorbia nicaeensis [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of the Serbian Chemical Society, 2021
In the previous study fifteen jatrophane diterpenes were isolated from the Euphorbia nicaeensis latex. Fourteen of them have been shown to be potent P-glycoprotein (P-gp) inhibitor in two MDR cancer cells (NCI-H460/R and DLD1-TxR).

First report of nt230(del4) mutation in the MDR1 gene in German Shepherds in Southern Brazil

open access: yesCiência Rural, 2021
: The P-glycoprotein (P-gp) is a transmembrane protein encoded by the MDR1 gene that functions as a biological barrier by extruding toxins and xenobiotics out of cells.

ERBB and P‐glycoprotein inhibitors break resistance in relapsed neuroblastoma models through P‐glycoprotein

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, 2023
Chemotherapy resistance is a persistent clinical problem in relapsed high‐risk neuroblastomas. We tested a panel of 15 drugs for sensitization of neuroblastoma cells to the conventional chemotherapeutic vincristine, identifying tariquidar, an inhibitor ...

The Effect of Rifampicin on the Induction of MDR1/P-gp Activity in Proinflammatory Human Macrophages

open access: yesАнтибиотики и Химиотерапия, 2022
Background. The effect on the activity of the multidrug resistance protein P-glycoprotein (P-gp, MDR1 gene) in pro-inflammatory (M1) human macrophages is considered one of the promising strategies for increasing the effectiveness of the treatment in ...

P-Glycoprotein: One Mechanism, Many Tasks and the Consequences for Pharmacotherapy of Cancers

open access: yesFrontiers in Oncology, 2020
P-glycoprotein or multidrug resistance protein (MDR1) is an adenosine triphosphate (ATP) binding cassette transporter (ABCB1) intensely investigated because it is an obstacle to successful pharmacotherapy of cancers.

Characterization of P-Glycoprotein Inhibitors for Evaluating the Effect of P-Glycoprotein on the Intestinal Absorption of Drugs

open access: yesPharmaceutics, 2021
For developing oral drugs, it is necessary to predict the oral absorption of new chemical entities accurately. However, it is difficult because of the involvement of efflux transporters, including P-glycoprotein (P-gp), in their absorption process.

Pharmacokinetic interactions: The effects of selected herbal extracts on permeation of P-glycoprotein substrate drugs across excised pig intestinal tissue [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of HerbMed Pharmacology, 2022
Introduction: There is growing concern that co-administered herbal medicines may alter the pharmacokinetics and, therefore, the efficacy and toxicity of Western drugs.
