Paraoxonase 1 and Postprandial Lipemia
2008Risk factors for coronary heart disease (CHD) include decreased insulin sensitivity and glucose intolerance, hypertension, increased body fat mass, unfavorable body fat distribution, the prothrombotic state and dyslipidemia. A clustering of these metabolic disturbances is also seen in Insulin Resistance and the metabolic syndrome.

Lead inhibits paraoxonase 2 but not paraoxonase 1 activity in human hepatoma HepG2 cells
Journal of Applied Toxicology, 2012ABSTRACTLead is an environmental toxicant of great concern for humans and animals. Leadāinduced liver damage and malfunction are partly due to a disturbance of the cellular antioxidant balance. Paraoxonase 1 (PON1) and PON2 are highly expressed in the liver and have been proposed as antioxidative enzymes.

Paraoxonase-1 and Cardiovascular Disease
2008The oxidation of low-density lipoprotein (LDL) in the artery wall is responsible for the initiation and progression of atherosclerosis. High-density lipoprotein (HDL) on the other hand is protective against atherosclerosis development and can attenuate the oxidation of LDL.

The Role of Paraoxonase 1 in the Detoxification of Homocysteine Thiolactone
2009The thioester homocysteine (Hcy)-thiolactone, product of an error-editing reaction in protein biosynthesis, forms when Hcy is mistakenly selected by methionyl-tRNA synthetase. Accumulating evidence suggests that Hcy-thiolactone plays an important role in atherothrombosis.
